Figured I would throw this out there....

February 15th and 16th is the Kinston Winter Bluegrass Festival, now known as the Neuse River Music Fest. It's at Lenoir Community College. I'm pretty sure I'll go both days, I love me some bluegrass music!

Also, on March 2nd, I'm going to Wingate University to see Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out! They'll also be in Kinston.

I'm pretty excited :bounce:

Yes, its about all I listen to.

We got married 10 years ago. Formal church wedding. Folks that did the music did traditional Celtic music. Only my wife and I, and the musicians knew about the recessional, though...we didn't have them play what was on the program....they "whupped out the banjers" and we wrapped up with foggy mountain breakdown. It's funny on the video -- the world's fastest recessional. Their site: www.strictlycleananddecent.com

You pick any? I grabbed a banjo a few years ago, I wish I had more time to learn. I'm more of a singer, but I'd love to be able to master the 5 string.

I have IIIrd Tyme Out's newer CD in the truck and a USB drive with IIIrd Tyme Out, Doc Watson, and Blue Highway on it. Some real good stuff on there. I also have the classics in the CD holders :D

I never liked bluegrass until I started playing guitar. You realize real quick that blue grass is the fastest, hardest, and most technical style of music ever created. It blows heavy metal solo's out of the water.

I've gotten into some newer age bluegrass too.

Mumford and sons
Avett brothers
Leftover salmon
Acoustic syndicate

Love me some bluegrass too. I can't carry a tune with a dump truck, but I have a sincere appreciation for it. I am luck enough to be friends with several well know musicians and get to be a part of invite only parties where big names eat a pork sammich, take a swing from the jar, and hang out and pick. Its like Merle Fest in someones living room. Oh the stories you will hear!

I love bluegrass, I was lucky enough to have a room mate in oki that loved it too. So we always pissed everyone off in the mornings with it. Bought a banjo before I deployed, so they are gonna be realllll pissed when I get and learn to play it! It aint my fault they dont know good music when they here it. :)

I love bluegrass. I have a banjo and need to find time to learn to pick it. Cast Iron Filter is another good newgrass band.

I listen to bluegrass anytime i have pandora on. I love the new 'folk rock' they call avett bros and mumford and sons and the old stuff like ricky skaggs. Lester Flatt and so on. My jeep, honda and tool box all have stickers saying my grass is blue.

Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers are going to play in Greensboro soon I think.

I smoked some bluegrass when I was overseas years ago, during this time I listened to a lot of things. Non of which I can clearly remember.

As far as the music, I listen to it sometimes. when I can catch it surfing the radidio.

Steep Canyon Rangers play in Charlotte on Jan 27, we'll be there. It's my birthday!
We've seen them before in Black Mtn, they put on a good show.

I've see SCR several times, great bunch of guys too! Al Batten & The Bluegrass Reunion are another "local" favorite, Al is one helluva guy too. Very friendly! I really wish I could catch SCR with Steve Martin though. I'm really bummed that I never got to see Earl Scruggs or Doc Watson in person. Doc and Earl were the last of their kind!

I'm really going to try to see if I can get in on a jam/rehersal with Russell Moore & the 3TO boys and sing one with the band when they're in Kinston. When I went and saw them at the Rudy Theater in Selma, it was the banjo player's (Steve Dilling) birthday. Since it was near his hometown, lots of his family and friends were there. It was pretty cool!

check out 94.7 WQDR outta Raleigh on sunday nights between 6-9pm for the PineCone Bluegrass show. They play a great mix of local stuff, new hot stuff and a good bit of old time 'grass. If your out past G-boro you'll have to catch them on the net or Iheart radio. Definatley some good relaxing sunday night music.

Wife and I walked into our wedding reception to "Foggy Mountain Breakdown", couldn't wait to get that party....I mean, reception going:D We teamed up with a couple DJ's from 107.9 in Charlotte and I made the music list....It was a damn good time.

I like alot of classic grass and the new not so traditional stuff. Hackensaw boys, Devil makes 3, etc. Saw TBT 3x last yr and had awesome seats for a sold out OCMS show at the Tennessee Theatre.

We saw Yonder Mountain String Band in Raleigh, that was a great show. We saw OCMS with the Felice Brothers, Justin Townes Earl, and Gillian Welch & David Rawlings in Cary a few years back and that was amazing.

OCMS- Wagon Wheel, one of my all time favorites, Roanoke gets a shout out in that great song!

THe Hackensaw boys put on one of the best shows that I've ever been too. That's why I've seen them 4 times. :)

I might have to make that drive if possible, always loved bluegrass. Is there in good bluegrass stations on the radio in the Charlotte area?

I love where I live and one of the perks is the Bluegrass show on 88.7 FM on Saturdays. Nothing like a little yard work or some wrenching with tunes in the background.

If you can't pick up the station, stream it from wncw.org

I dont remember the station, but I use to listen to some bluegrass on the way to work at like 4:30 am. It only picked up on 321 and only in my old ford. bout the only thing I enjoyed about that ride.
