Anybody like Bluegrass?

yall ever heard of balsam range? local group from canton nc. Good family friends of mine, and the also throw some good partys... I mean shows lol. No they really do have a good family show. The party dont start until they loose the crowd lol.

I've see SCR several times, great bunch of guys too! Al Batten & The Bluegrass Reunion are another "local" favorite, Al is one helluva guy too. Very friendly! I really wish I could catch SCR with Steve Martin though. I'm really bummed that I never got to see Earl Scruggs or Doc Watson in person. Doc and Earl were the last of their kind!

I'm really going to try to see if I can get in on a jam/rehersal with Russell Moore & the 3TO boys and sing one with the band when they're in Kinston. When I went and saw them at the Rudy Theater in Selma, it was the banjo player's (Steve Dilling) birthday. Since it was near his hometown, lots of his family and friends were there. It was pretty cool!

Steve and Scotty Dilling/family lived down the street from me when we were younguns, I remember when Steve first started pickin on his porch, it did'nt take long for him to shine. He is a natural born banjo picker.

Kinston Winter Bluegrass Festival is this Friday and Saturday at Lenoir Community College!

You guys need to look up "Crooked Still". They have a very mellow sound with the main instruments being banjo, standup bass, and chello. The singers voice is so soft and smooth too... I love it. And yeah, on 91.5 FM, Friday, saturday and sunday nights at 8pm, you can get Bluegrass on the radio, along with some folk and blues.... I think they call it backporch music. Good stuff!

Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme out will be in Greenville, NC today at 11am for a meet & greet and later this evening at LCC in Kinston for the Neuse River Music Fest. Looks like I'll be going to Kinston this afternoon!

Never cared for bluegrass much until a close high school friend joined a band. He is the guitar player for Balsam Range. Love watching them play, it's amazing!

They put out their 4th album in '12 and also released and album with John Driskell Hopkins (bass player for The Zac Brown Band).

We are lucky to live here near asheville with some amazing talent including SCR and BR. They are label mates and have both won numerous awards from the IBMA's.

^ I love that song. Every bar I go to that has a mp3 player juke box, I'll wear that song out, haha

I think they did a cover of that, I have heard it on Pandora a few times and then I heard some one else do it on the classic country station.

I work with a local anouncer "Larry Nixon" of "Pinecone Bluegrass Show". Never was much into it until I started working here. He keeps me up on all the local music happenings. Used to go to shows pretty frequently back in the day. I'll listen to his show every now and then on Sunday nights.
Definately like the Trampled by Turtles.

The majority of bluegrass songs that I like are remakes of OLLLLDDDD country songs that I've never heard the original version of. IIIrd Tyme Out has a knack for digging up songs like that.

Anybody else like some Old and In the Way?

YouTube 'The Cleverlys', that's some funny blue grass.

Hahaha, all I can picture is Cee Lo Green!

I'm hoping I can catch some concerts this summer.

any one remember the union grove fiddlers convention back in the 60's?

My dad has pictures from his older days there.

One stands out in my mind is a state trooper standing in the middle of the road, Halting the Hells angels. They could not enter the area due to the large number of Outlaws that were at the convention. I may have the gangs mixed up, but that was some wild times say's my dad.

Also, there is a small burger joint there in Union Grove that is like a history museum inside. They have been through it all. Doc watson used to come in all the time. It was the place to be, without many knowing you were there.
