anyone ever tried this?

it works but causes alot of moisture in the air , don't use dry ice or you could take a dirt nap lol

I occasionally use those cold packs you buy in the camping section to place in front of an electric fan. If they last a few hours each its good enough! Use three while the other three are in the freezer.

Classic "swamp cooler".
Yeah the trick to cutting down on moisture is probably not just using a bucket of open ice, but instead a contained frozen object.
Milk is an interesting idea b/c the thaw rate is probably slower than water.

This made me thick, I've got a whole bunch of freezer packs we never use (get new ones every month w/ daughter's medicine) that just sit in teh freezer. Perfect for this.
Don't think you really even need the bucket. Buy one of those cheap styrofoam coolers you get at gas stations, drill right into that.

I rented a house in Bard CA that had a swamp cooler for air conditioning. It had these mats inside of it that the water flowed though that had to be cleaned every week or so (mold). Not worth the hassle IMHO.

I think they work great if the humidity level is below 50%. Out west they are a common occurrence, but around here there's just too much humidity.

We have ones the size of a truck on the greenhouses with cardboard slivers that run vertical and pvc pipe with holes in the top and a trough on the bottom. There's two 48" fans on the opposite side of the greenhouse that draw air through it. Its unbelievable how cool it runs on a dry day.

We had a couple swamp coolers in the shop in Iraq. There would be ice on the grille in 120* temps.

My wifes parents live in Arizona and everyone out there has swamp coolers.. dang things work great but wont make you cold like an AC Unit
