So like a year and a half or so ago my parents bought an RV. It is a Class A, 2018 I think, Georgetown. The bought it at Riverside RV in New Bern. I thought there were a few red flags when they bought it, they seemed even more eager to sell it than you would think. Which is saying a lot.
Anyway, about 10 months ago they took it across the country. At one point the bed above the driver's seat came loose but luckily they saw it and managed to secure it. Some other small stuff too. But when they were in California, my wife got sick and was in the hospital with cancer and in their haste to get home he accidentally hit a low overhang with the AC unit. When they got home they took it to an RV repair place by us. When they went to redo the roof, they realized that the roof had been previously replaced and the entire underside was covered in black mold and a lot of the wood was rotten. That's why the bed came loose, the wood was rotten that it was attached to. I feel like the RV place knew this was an issue and wanted to dump it.
Anyway, the insurance won't cover the additional repairs because it was an existing issue that isn't covered. They estimated that it was going to be like $20k to do the repairs.
My dad called Riverside, they said too bad so sad. He said he was going to make some social media posts about it. They said they'd sue him for libel. Only thing they offered him was a trade in on a new RV.
They paid close to $90k on this thing and are going to lose their ass. If they can get it fixed cheap enough they would do that. But right now they can't afford to pay $20-30k to fix it (I think that is overpriced) and they can't afford to sell it.
Anyone have any advice? I'm leaning towards burn it down, but it is already on the insurance radar.
