Yeah, thats what I meant, just didn't use proper puncuation to imply it.

:fuck-you:WOW XJ not making any friends lately, are ya? lol jk

Wow just read that thread over there, most of those guys still dont get it :shaking: Their big lesson is not to wheel alone wtf.

Lets see I went into store stole some beer but if they ask me I'll return it, so its all ok :shaking:

Its ok because he had to do it to get home:shaking:. I like how it turned into he "borrowed" the spring  and he wouldnt hesitate to return the part IF someone started to look for it.

^^^Ding Ding^^^

We have a winner.

I think there just trying to not say he did any thing wrong, Hey we all make mistakes, I just try not to post them on the net. But I agree totally with you. Thats my point.

Than next time don't go all holyer then thow and say what you mean.

I think what hes saying is, had anyone shown a shred of give a fuck, that the parts were stolen, instead of making excuses as to why they were stolen, and about the thiefs (sorry thats the word for it) character, stating that he would give it back. It might have been viewed differently.

Ive done alot of ghetto fixes, but under the circumstances I wouldn't have taken the parts without speaking to the Forest Service first.

Cause i'm a gooder speller than u r.
LOL

well, since everyone is throwing out their opinions and this is my thread, which got way off track by the way; i think the man did what he had to do to get home. granted it is foolish of him to wheel alone, but we've all done less than smart things. i respect your opinion XJ about speaking with FS first, however i cant say id done the same. some fools trashed a jeep and left it for dead and some people made use of it. now im not saying that anyone is right or wrong here, that is just my $0.02 lol
:)

Hell, if anything, you should have been MORE harsh. Fuck that thieving fucker it doesn't matter to me how many people on that site "know he's a good guy."

Reverse the situation and say you were in sitting on Slick Rock back in the day at Tellico and broken ... OR BFE Callalantee w/ no hope of getting a tow truck out to you or facing a LONG walk back for parts... I bet some of your attitudes would change...

I know good and well I would NOT resort to stealing parts off on ANY rig to fix mine under any non-life threatening circumstance. I can guarantee you that.

I think some of you guys are going way out on a limb to try to demonize this guy. You can make up all these crazy stories about how the Jeep might have been stolen and dumped there, but ultimately that thing was already destroyed before he got there. I hate thieves as much as anybody, but I wouldn't call this guy a thief. After re-reading the first post in this thread and looking at the pics of the Jeep as he found it I really don't see a problem with salvaging a leaf spring to get home. That Jeep was going to the junkyard with or without that leaf spring.

I drove past that thing last Saturday night , the wife and I went late night/early morning wheeling till about 2am Sunday. A fool could see that vehicle was abondon and trashed. It was going to need a lot more than a leaf spring to get outta there.
However it looked like that XJ(the one with the broken spring) was at a place a trailor could've been brought to get it, so I doubt I would've ganked a spring off the other one, but I assure you It looked liked it wasn't going to be missed. I love wheeling UNF late night, you get to see all the fools out...me included, we ran everything, hard lines and were alone. We also ran across another XJ that could've used some front end parts off that piled up turd. The guy lost brakes on a trail and slammed into the bank, broke control arms , shock and a ball joint.

The ratchet straps and block of wood looked pretty good to me. I would have drove it home like that. Maybe would have stopped at the outpost for another couple of rachet straps to be safe.
