whats that address.. I did not know they had a spot on aviation
I got out, gathered my thoughts on the situation, posted here, then took to the Google and looked for "commercial tire shops near me". It just happened that they were the closest one. I wasn't about to go to the Goodyear place. I'd still be figuring out how to pay for their tires!
I always keep a few pieces of 2x4 or 2xWhatever to throw under the jack feet to keep them off the ground. I figured it'd be easy enough to stack the two behind the rear tire and back up on them. That did the trick, so out came the impact and off came the rim. Didn't even have to strap/chain up the axle. Rolled up to the next exit (Aviation Parkway) and found a parking lot to pull in while I checked Google maps for more detailed directions. I was only a few miles from that tire joint. Start to finish, I was back on the road in probably an hour and a half. A good majority of that time was spent waiting on a decent enough gap in traffic so I could get rolling again. It all worked out as they didn't open until 7:30 anyway.
The (assumed) Mexican dude that helped me out was awesome. We got the piece of sidewall/tire cap unwound from behind the brake drum and the brake wires were still intact. A quick test of the brake controller confirmed it still worked just fine. He even put in new valve stems without me even asking and I decided to go ahead and replace both front axle tires. F it, ya know? I handed him 40 bucks. Totally worth it. No more issues to speak of for the rest of the trip there or back...aside from 100% confirming that when the TrueTracs get installed, 4.10 gears will go in as well.
You finally sell the 1500?
Actually, no. Did a trade for a side by side! I may hang on to it until October and make a trip to Hatfield McCoy with some friends from work, but if it sells before then, so be it.
Decent. I believe he has family in haywood county. When I lived at my old house he took a picture of it and my jeep in the back yard and asked if it was my house
Yep! Cousins on my dad's side. I was headed over to one of his friend's houses, but the way 40 was backed up, I ducked off at Exit 37, ran through (the former
) Paper Town, then hopped back on 40 and went over to Smitty's house and made the trade. I totally didn't even see you! It was a long day though. Always cool to get spotted
One of the guys at the tire shop said he passed me on the side of the road too
Well damn. Shoulda messaged me this morning. I could have at least run up there with my trailer to help.
I got going again pretty quick, luckily. It could have been a lot worse. At least it didn't take out the right rear when it flung the cap off the casing or make the trailer get squirrelly. I watched it fly out and land dead between the lane I was in and the one to my right. It avoided everyone else and the rig next to me slowed down and let me get to the shoulder pretty quick.
Oddly enough me and my buddy were literally talking about tires when I felt it start to shimmy. By the time I figured out what was happening, it incurred a rapid unscheduled disassembly. From the first bounce to blow out was maybe 10 seconds.
