Salisbury area state troopers are dippin tanks today, just got dipped for the first time ever! State trooper tahoe loaded down black and silver marked....has a dept of revenue agent with him.....yall watch out!

What area? On 85 I assume? I've been dipped a few years ago, no diesel anymore though.

Gettin off on jake...they were dippin somebody on the side of 85 heard me comin ran to their truck an whipped in behind me, pulled me in the waffle house parkin lot

Are they checking for people running offroad only diesel, or that and something else?

What is the fine for running something other than diesel and not reporting it?
I've wondering this, wanting to get a diesel at some point.
Running something "other than diesel" such as bio, WVO, WMO, etc is fine. They are looking for red dyed off road diesel, shows up easy when they "dip" the tank. I guess they could start sniffing your tank to see if it smells like french fries though... I've never ran red diesel, although I have a 1000gallon tank on the farm that was mighty tempting. I have questioned whether the filtered used transmission fluid we have ran in our 12v a few times could give a false positive though.

The fine varies depending on if it is a personal vehicle or a company vehicle. I have heard of fines of up to $10,000 per vehicle for commercial vehicles, and closer to $1,000 for a personal vehicle. I have also heard of rumors of a set $$ per gallon in your truck. Keep in mind, just one tank isn't all it will show up, the red dye is pretty concentrated and will last quite a while after you run it.

Off road.

Off road.

You are supposed to report it if you are running anything that you didn't pay tax on, like WVO/WMO/ATF/etc. I thought they checked for everything when they dipped it?

Report it yes, but AFAIK they are only looking for the red dye, the rest is just a footnote.

Be an intersting argument for probable cause for pulling you over.

Illegal search and seizure anyone?

True... they have to have some violation to pull you over... like cracked tail lights or a traffic offense... but also depending on the revenue agents jurisdiction and code of laws it may be legal... it can be a complicated issue.... I am law enforcement here in SC and i know our "state transport police" are the guys who deal with the stuff and they have some laws that they don't have to have probable cause because they fall under environmental issues....

Trooper said its an immediate 1000 and then you have to deal w the feds..... Revenue ahent was already dipoing my tank before i knew what was going on...i was like wtf.....what do they do if you refuse? And can they actually pulk you over just to dip your tank? I wasnt doing anything and everythings legal on my truck

Don't think state laws can violate The Constitution. They would hae to be fed agents at a minimum I'd think.

You bet 'cher ass they can pull you over for no reason. The DMV does not have to show probable cause to pull you over. They have more freedom than you do. They can randomly check you any time, any where, for anything they want. The smug sons a bitches will sit in court chuckling and grinning if you try to defend yourself via the constitution. Them and the ATF are friggin Nazis. Normal search and siezure rules dont apply. My Dad has been an over the road driver all his life. They can beat on the door of the truck, make you step out while they run a wet nasty dog all through you sleeper and your bed. Make you stand in a down pour while they do it and when they dont find anything, they tell you to have a good night, snicker, and go to the next truck. After talking to a lawyer about it, my Dad was informed that they were within thier duties and rules. He also went on to explain that these guys get thier jobs because they couldnt make the cut as a Highway Patrol officer. So you get second rate officers with a bad attitude and more freedom than a normal cop. Nice.

Heard this from quit a few people, 2 were highway patrol men.

what there is their "thier"?

The state is running a serious revenue shortfall. They will be after monies ANY WAY THEY CAN GET IT.

I've always toyed with the idea of getting decals made up that say "Department of revenue" and sticking them on patrol cars, since it seems that's all that seems to be enforced now a days.

I used to work with a guy that ran some marvel mystery oil in his 12V cummins. Did it quite regularly, kinda like some people use techron fuel treatment in a gas burner every other tank. Right about the time that i first heard ofr dmv troopers dipping tanks, we talked to a trooper that was a customer where we worked at the time. He simply told my buddy to carry the jug in the truck, and if he got pulled pull the jug out and explain what he did. Said they wouldnt do much but take his info, and a fuel sample to analyze to see if he was telling the truth, other than that they couldn't fine him for running a "fuel treatment".

I saw them dipping an OTR truck at lunch in salisbury, and even though Tabb thinks his Ferd F250 is a peterbilt, it must mean they are dipping whoever they want.

I think the 8' tall stacks might have just confused the poor cop

Scott,
That there is a their, see there. That North West Edumacation was worth all 6 years.

We were in Chili's the other day and could overhear the conversation of 4 DMV officers sitting in the booth behind us. They were all excited about a "Blitz" they were going to run the next 3 days. It was pretty pathetic how much they seemed to relish handing out big fines. They were bragging on who would give out the biggest one. It took everything I had not to go off on them for being such asshats. If we had been sitting in a better spot, I would have videoed it with my phone and posted it on youtube.:fuck-you:

LOLs.... tell that to the DOT cops. They don't even wait until the truck is stopped before they're poking in the back, crawling around underneath, etc.
