Im no attorney but in the taxation section of the ncgs just above the dyed diesel section is one that says manufacturing your own biodiesel for use in a car registered to you is tax exempt. At least for nc taxes.

You have to report it to the state how much you use. They give you some number or something that they track you by. A family friend runs WVO in his 2000 F350 and he said he has to report to the state how many gallons he uses. There are tax credits for it too, he said he pays like $.48 per mile and they give him back like $.56 per mile. Yeah, he said he gets paid for driving his truck on WVO. He drives so much he said he paid for the WVO conversion in like a year.

Suddenly I want to put huge speakers in the back of my Suburban, blast a diesel sound track, and rig the exhaust to smoke black and then watch them try to figure out how I am running gasoline in the truck.

Years ago I got stopped by a DOT ( before they merged with the Highway Patrol) Officer. He was high as a kite. Had me over the hood of my car with a gun at my head because I had a legal gun in the truck. He clocked me going 47 in a 35 and was so high he couldn't do the math to tell me how much over the limit I was. He let me go no ticket. Had he written me one the first thing I would have done was scream for a supervisor and demand a drug test.

Three weeks later the same guy was arrested for possession of Meth. He confiscated some from a driver, let the driver go and started using.

what if I buy cheap diesle in SC and then drive into NC? Isn't NC getting screwed there too?

Are they going to hit me with that too? Where does it stop?

Guess I need to fix my tail light so I don't get pulled and get a ticket anyway..

The state troopers/ motor carrier enforcement are really stepping it up here lately, take it from a dump truck driver. We are dealing with them a lot more now and they seem to be getting even more strict on stuff.

As far as the diesel fuel the only difference in red diesel and regular #2 is the red die, oh and the red/ off road is not subject to the road use tax, hence the cheaper price and the reason they check (this info comes from a close family member that works at colonial pipeline in gso and knows fuel very well). State of NC doesnt want to lose out on the extra revenue from that.

Anyone that can tell the difference in emission from a truck is more than just well trained. You have to think even the same year and make truck can put out different amounts of smoke. example: i drive a 2005 kw t800 tri axle dump with a c15 twin turbo cat motor, there is an identical truck, same specs as mine and within 5,000 mile difference and the other truck smokes quite a bit more than mine.

Take it from many years of dealing with the NC troopers, most of the time it does pay to be polite and nice. There has been many times ive dealt with them with a good additude and it paid off. Its actually saved me from being weighed or having a level 2 check. I know youve all heard that but we all know know dont act a fool cause it will cost you more. About 3 weeks ago me and two other of our drivers were pulled and thanks to all of us being nice and cooperative it saved our butts, i know i was overweight by about 5,000lbs soo i was glad when he decided not to weigh us

X2.
Our shop is not far off of Carowinds Blvd. (Shop is in NC) We have 8 service vans on the road everyday but when we head out we hit the Kangaroo there at 77 and Carowinds (SC) to get fuel.

The thought is it balances out. For every one of you guys who run SC fuel into NC, there are plenty of OTR guys who buy a few hundred gallons in NC and then carry on north or south.
