I got an '89 Blazer that needs paint. Two-tone black and silver, and the back cab top needs reshot in flat black. No bodywork, except for two dings (dime-sized). I got a body shop quote, for grins and giggles, of $3G.

Anybody know of a good small shop of backyard guy that will do a good shop, for somewhat less than that?

I know it won't be cheap. Last car I painted was $1050 in materials alone. But I ain't gonna paint another one, either.

It only has about 87K on the clock, so it's worth doing.

Do the body work yourself and take it to a quick spray place...maco? peaches? etc.. 50-50 shot of getting someone that halfway knows how to spray. As long as you do the body work and get it right it should come out good.

Thats what i did on a K5..did the body work and had it sprayed at peaches..came out great! and a lot cheaper than i could buy just the materials.

What kind of prep work do you need to do to the vehicle if you're going to take it to maaco or peaches? Do they do the sanding, taping and such?

they sand and tape....but if you are concerned about overspray remove it.

Yea they will sand it and etc...BUT it wont be worth a flip..Do the sanding and prepo yourself or get someone that know what there doing to do it...It will turn out 10x better.

I manage Maaco in Hickory, cars here are sanded thoroughly and taped tight so over spray don't get every where. There are several members on here that have had thier cars and trucks painted by me here that can attest to the quality. The more you pay to R&I the better the job gets

I'll be coming to you then when I'm ready for paint.
