Automotive bubble....has it burst?

I need it to burst like this week, just got t-boned in my Tahoe and can't find anything decent for a decent price

Don't settle with the insurance company until they show you a replacement for your old vehicle at the amount they offer you, they are supposed to make you whole, not give you Blue Book, You should only be paying more than they offer if you are buying something better than what you lost...

2000-2006 suburban 1500/2500 under 125k and around $16k. Don't want to finance but might have to if it's low miles and not tooo over budget.

Been listed for a while, I bet $16k might get it..... hopefully you aren't too concerned with mpg.

So maybe I'm missing something, but as long as the person that hit you has insurance as required, the price of a replacement isn't your problem. In Nc you have the right to haggle and provide your own evidence of what it costs to replace an identical vehicle based on today's market. Don't settle until you have enough to actually buy what you had before.

Also, if you have not already, press them to provide a rental. That will take the pressure off of you and put on them to close the deal b/c it costs them daily not to.

speaking of the new tahoes and yukons. I wanted a new one and test drove a SLT 2 weeks before i bought the tow pig and the price tag was $59,000 USED granted it had about 14k miles but still .

Yea hard to justify spending that kinda money on a vehicle.
On the other hand, most of the lower mileage(60-100,000) used 2500 suburbans are mid to upper 30s. so at what point do you pony up (finance) the extra $20k and get a new 1500 with a warranty...

That's good info that I was not aware of, thank you!

I just put a new long block in my 06 F-350 and have thought about selling it based on what they are asking(bringing??) for used diesel trucks.but I would be right back looking for a replacement in the same market I sold in.
No one is buy 6.0 and 6.4 trucks right now from what i can tell. or they want a perfectly mint truck that has never been used for hauling and without a single dent. I thought i had my truck listed at a pretty decent price for what other diesels are selling for and havent gotten anything but tire kickers

Diesel trucks is what I have spent most of my time watching lately.....it seems like the cummins bubble has burst, which probably won't help prices on the 6.0 and 6.4l Fords. I have also been hunting a TJ/LJ/JK wrangler. I am seeing crazy prices for all of them, but 90% of everything I have saved just sits there getting renewed weekly but not sold.

I suspect a lot of people are going to be disappointed, at some point sellers will also look around and see that listing prices are crazy, but sale prices are considerably lower. Too bad there isn't a zillow site for cars, that shows list vs sale prices to the everyday consumer.

Most people don't know you can fight, it's what insurance companies prey on. I've never had a case where what they offered initially was what it actually cost to replace a matching vehicle. Get quotes from a couple places, realistic prices, not the "Oh man I better jump in this in an hour" price. But not the ridiculous ones either, they'll blow those off.
And they owe you the cost of tax, title, registration too.

It may be a fight but it could save you thousands.

Related - my insurance rates have really ballooned. Rep says it from the inflated costs for replacements, which is totally logical.
Somehow I am skeptical that when (if) the market goes back down the rates will too....

Its been a while, but we actually had to file a claim against our insurance to get OUR agent to work a little bit. The other insurance company wouldn't budge off of there 40% below market offer for the car. Our agent tried to convince me it was a fair price....

I said i need to replace it this week, find me one with the same options / mileage and clear title. For that price and i will accept your offer. They could not. lol They actually suggested looking private party, Whattt, Some of these cheap insurance companies are a pain to deal with.

This is why I have had good luck with immediately pushing for a rental, and in that process coming up w/ a good justification why it has to be a midsize vehicle that has a higher daily rate (they are supposed to match the class of your your car).
With them on the hook for the daily cost of that rental, and you having a nice car to drive daily, it flips who is under pressure to get the deal done.
For us guys w/ multiple vehicle laying around its easy to default to ,"Eh I just drive the extra awhile" but that shoots yourself in the foot.

And, fuck "your" guy. Half the time they work for the same company! It sucks but you just have to be your own advocate.

We are getting hit with 30 to 40 percent hike on our car taxes now here in Ky. and that is in the auto's we already own to not just on what is being bought now.

I read on another forum where diesel Super Duties are SELLING at sticker plus $30-40k out west. There's just none to be had out there. They posted the sticker price with add-on.
Makes me think about listing my 22 out there and seeing what I can get for it.
I looked at Kernersville Ram site and they have next to nothing. Same for other local Ford dealers. If I did sell it for stupid money, replacement cost would be stupid most likely.

Yes you do. My wife has been in 2 wrecks. Both times the other driver was drunk. Both times her vehicles were totaled. First wreck the driver blew a .21 and was insured with Nationwide. They low balled on the replacement cost of her vehicle and did not want to pay her medical bills either because they said whip lash isn't real. They said if you don't like it sue us. So we did. It took two years to finally get the case to court. The week of the trial they started sweating because we knew we had a good case, and I called their bluff. So then they started throwing out settlement offers to us to make the case go away. After turning down a few they finally offered up some real money and we settled. I know my insurance company would not have gone to the great length we did to get compensated.
Second wreck the drive was wacked out on drugs. Vehicle was insured with Progressive. Same deal they low balled on the replacement cost of her vehicle. I got tired of the phone call games and showed up to one of their offices. It is amazing how things change when you are standing in front of them and they can't bullshit you from behind a keyboard or phone. After going back and forth for a bit we left with a fair check. So yeah, be prepared to take the bull by the horns.

‘Market Adjustment’…when I was looking, everything new at the dealers I was going to had a line item called ‘market adjustment’, and was usually 20-40% over MSRP. I’d imagine the used market would be better than that, since I doubt they’d have to justify a comparison to MSRP.

If you can be without a truck for a while, now is the time to sell that thing.

I know a friend that somehow keeps finding them for MSRP at dealers and sells his making money every like 3 months, think he has done it like 4x now in the past year.

You can order a truck and get it in a reasonable time right now. That is what I'm seeing. From what I understand Ford has told dealers they are building ordered trucks first and not to expect new inventory.

6 months is what I am reading. 4 or so for Ram.
If I can find someone wanting mine badly enough, I'll drive the business' 550 for a few months!

Might be but we’ve had two new platinums ordered since the new body style come out and checked with salesman Saturday they still have not started building them

w the exception of the occasional pos beater trucks I buy I could probably get by w a gasser but I hate the thought of doin it.

Glad I bought my beater '12 Ram when I did because it only got worse in the last four months. Had to put some money into it to repair a few things but it seems to be holding up.

If Erie operates in your state give them a call. I re-did all my insurance with them two years ago, have four vehicles, two trailers (yes, they will insure flat deck utility trailers!), my house, an umbrella, and some riders with high coverage. They even did stated value coverage on my Blazer which is a tough vehicle to pin down for a replacement price. Paying less than I did with Allstate for far more coverage (double on my autos, added the umbrella, riders, and trailers). Wish I switched years ago.

This year my auto insurances all went down just a smidgen.
