You fellow jeep lovers have a member I met on this website. His screen name is 78cjbeast. I thought that it should be known that this individual used your website to maliciously sell a what I consider a lemon. I had posted my jeep cherokee for sale or trade and recieved an e-mail from this individual. After several e-mails and conversations I agreed to make a trade of my jeep cherokee for his wrangler. At all times he told me that the jeep ran good and had no mechanical problems and the owner had reciepts for all maintenance which i now believe to be false. I looked at the jeep which seemed to run well and drive great. Due to what he called a schedule conflict i drove over 4 hours from my home one way to meet this individual. After test driving and looking over the jeep I purchased same which seemed to be as he described. I then travelled exactly 30 miles on the road home before the bottom end of the motor came out. It appears that the seller had used gear oil to prevent the knocking noise of the motor to be heard. I was then stuck in the recent hurricane on the side of I-40 here in NC outside wilmington before finally being towed home 15 hours later with a jeep that does not run. The only reply from the seller 78cjbeast was "i have to watch out for number one". I have since to have a phone call or message be returned. I wanted you as the fellow members to be aware on how such a member was allowed to abuse this great website with no regard for others. I now have spent what little money my fiance and I have put aside on a jeep, that even though promised time and time again to be a great daily driver go down the drain. Unfortunatelty for us I am now without a vehicle as our remainder of savings is being spent on our wedding which we have to pay for. And most unfortunanetly for me not only was this my fiance' first experiance with a jeep, that I told her would be great fun, but that we just found out she may be pregant. I guess when it rains it pours. I know that there is nothing that you can really do I would just like to know that this member was not a true member of the jeep society I have grown to rspect and enjoy and post this information so that there will be no future victims. I have always felt that jeep owners were a sub-culture always helping out one another until this showed me that scum can lurk even in the best of places. Thanks for your time.

dude, i know him. i'll try to get in contact and see what the deal is. he's actually a good buddy of mine. this sux so bad to hear this, for you, and for him bc i know him to be a better guy than that.

I dont know....based on that reply I would say he is an ass. I did not hear both sides but sure dont like deals like this on NC4x4.com. We all need to follow up on this...???

i'd say mr cj definatly needs to trade back asap.... if he intentionally mislead you to the condition of the vehicle then it seems you could have something in court if he failed to be a man about trading back....

id say just the fact that he used gear oil (which as obviously used to mislead you)

is grounds enough to file charges. Screw getting yourself in trouble by taking it directly to him.

yeah the gear oil and the reply is enough for a good court case. he needs to burn at the stake. good luck on whatever comes out of this, and if you need parts hunting help let us know.

any site admin or mods gonna see this?

but that really sucks man, ive had that happen to me, but i bought the truck for far less than i thought it was worth, and just used the difference to fix the problems.

Man! what is with this guy? I wish to add that most of us jeepers are not like this :shaking:  but I am willing to to help in whatever way I can:beer: E-mail me at topjeep02@yahoo.com

:fuck-you: to you people doing this crap:fuck-you:

Gear oil? Interesting. No a slam, but anytime you aggree to look at a vehicle for purchase you need to check the fliuds. Gear oil smells like shit, did you not notice anything?

Got anything in writing about the condition of the Wrangler? I'd be interested in hearing CJ's side on this. Not to say you didn't get fawked over, but there is always 2 sides to every story.

Damn shame things go like this sometimes.

Thanks for the great support. I would like some info as to a trustworthy mechanic in the area of winston-salem that i could talk with to get me started on what my damages are gonna be. I should not that I have sent the admin at this site the information that I posted here. They said unfortunately that there is not much they can do ther than ban him from posting ads in the future but that they are gonna follow up. It is great to see such great support from the 4x4 community. I just hope to get this fixed soon. Thnx.

I do have several e-mails about the condition that the seller claimed the vehicle was in and will forward this false information to the admin of the site and if he has a side to the story that goes any different i would love to hear it.

i wouldn't drop a dime into the vehilce, i'd go to a lawyer and drop my money. You could probably get your vehicle back and some money to boot.

You only got 30 minutes down the road?! My question is why did you get that thing towed to your house? I would've had it towed right back to him with me riding shotgun - with a shotgun!

so i've been talking with 78cjbeast. and just for a little background guys i went to school with him for 4 years, we were pretty good friends. wrenched together, etc.

i've known him to be a stand up guy, which is why i was so surprised when i heard what the original poster said that he said.

as far as maintenance goes, i would believe anything he has documented. this was his daily driver, so it had to be dependable.

he and his father were religious about oil changes, routine maintenance, etc. heck, i've helped him put his dana 300 back into the jeep and put on new shackles. he knows how to take care of a vehicle.

so at any rate, he told me that he only used 10w30 and if that is classified as "gear oil" then yes, he used "gear oil" :shaking:

also, he never said that he was "looking out for number one".

at any rate, he will be contacting the original poster because he said he doesn't want to argue over the internet and would rather take care of it directly in person or over the phone.

i know that he wouldn't screw anyone over, and i'm just trying to bring his side of the story to nc4x4.
