I am happy that you were able to speak with your friend, 78cjbeast, but unfortunalety I am not changing my story. I am unable to determine the viscosity,I am not a specialist, of the oil though the oil smell was not as familiar as a 10w30 right before the motor went out. Your friend did unfortunately say "i have to watch out for number one" and I am sorry that he feels he has to tell you, his friend, otherwise. I think if you ask your friend if at any time did I misrepresent the jeep cherokee that he got from me he would say no. Just as a final word, your friend, refused to get me while I was on the side of the word in the storm. He just sent a message that said sorry to my phone. Thanks to everyone listening to my gripes.

Hey guys, i rode down to wilmington with shaun to get this cj he has been talking about. the guy was putting oil in the thing when we pulled up. should have known that this was a problem to begin with, but he did say it does burn some oil and he was just topping it off. The guy then said to both of us that nothing was wrong with the jeep. after the trade was complete he assured us that it would make it back to winston because he drove it to back and forth to charlotte all the time. he then told us to call if he had any problems with it. about 30 mins down the road it started smoking and knocking. we had to pull off and called the guy. he first told us that he would be on the way and to go ahead and call a tow truck and he would consider trading the jeep back. he then called back and said that he talked to his DAD and his DAD said he couldn't trade back (what a big boy that takes) he said he would pay the tow bill to tow it to winston though. guess what he said next time he called, he then decided that he was not responcible for the tow bill and the deal was done. never heard from the guy again while we sat in the pouring ran in a leaky jeep for numerous hours waiting to get it towed. i too would love to hear this guy's side of the story. jeeps dont just break down in 30 minutes after they r sold for no reason. he obviously knew something was wrong with it.

yeah, he has posted here before, why is he making his friend do the dirty work for him. he needs to come on and share.

shaun,
i'm truly sorry to hear about the situation. i hope you guys can figure out a solution that both will be happy with. as they say, don't kill the messenger. good luck man. let us know how it goes

So did YOU drive it around for a while to see if it ran fine? I know when I sell something it has NO WARRANTY express or implied.

If you would have given it say a 30 minute test drive, this could have been avoided.

Not saying anyone is right or wrong but damn, be smart about the situation. Knowone knows what YOU may have done in that 30 minute time frame.

My .02

i guess you guys swapped titles and had them notarized? if not report your stolen and get it back. one should check fluids before purchasing, it could have been lucas and not gear oil, gear oil does stinks.

You did make the trade regardless of what the guy told you, but the guy is an ass. post the guys real name so everyone knows not to deal with him.

the bright side is you can always just throw a motor in it and get on with life.

That is B.S.

To me that is proof that he did know there was something wrong. Drive back to his place with the police or take it to small claims. Was there an official trade? titles signed over? If not there is no legal contract to keep you from getting your Jeep back. I would love to hear the other side...Where is he?

This whole situation really blows. I personally am on my third jeep and when I was 17 I sold my CJ-7 because it was not good DD for me since I didnt mechanically have much experience. I explained everything I didnt get around to fixing or improving to every perspective buyer. I was young but even then I understood the code of conduct that goes along with these expensive toys. Most have problems and you just gotta decide how much you are willing to work on one and put into one. There is no excuse for behavior like this. I know there are always two sides but it appears all things point to the other side being rotten.

I did drive the vehicle around but only about 15 minutes due to the unfortunate fact that when I arrived so had the storm and the roads were beginning to flood. We did conduct a title swap and had them notorized. I feel even dumber knowing that his bak closed due to the flooding and we used my bank to do the swap. I guess the flood was a sign from GOD for Noah and he listended. Unfortunately for me I did not. Thanks for everyone's post. I am gonna attempt to speak with a small claims attorney. I will definately keep you guys filled in. Unfortunately for me I may have to get it fixed because I am currently out of a vehicle and my fiance' and I have to carpool each other. I feel like I am in school again.

I am this kids friend and have known him for pushing 7 years. I have lost contact in the last 2 other then the occasional im so I don't know much about his character but the guy I remember is nothing like that, especially the "I gotta look out for number 1" comment or however it went.

I do know that he took it into a shop not to long ago to get some other things looked at, and when it went in it was primed over the whole body as it had been for over 3 years (since he bought it) and not only did the guy at the shop not fix his shit right and try to pass it off like he did, he also spraypainted it black as a "nice surprise". Now seeing that the guy is in college and most likely doesn't drive much at all, the gear oil could have been put in there without his knowledge from the above mentioned sketchy shop guy. I understand that he was looking for a new engine, but that doesn't directly mean he knew something was wrong. I am always looking for an engine but mine isn't bad (just underpowered). I am in no way trying to say he didn't know and did nothing wrong, but I am also not willing to sit here and let everyone assume the opposit. NO ONE knows the FULL story and trying to fill in your own details and make speculations is asinine.

'till he replies himself to someone he can just stay on the chopping block...no one wants to hear from his friends saying that hes a good guy, we wanna hear from him sayin why he did what he did.

I agree. The crazy thing about this is that 78cjbeast has visited this site within the last 24 hours and fails to reconcile what has happened with any kind of post to clear his side of the story. Doesn't look too good. Hate this happened to ya shaunmabe.

sorry, but a college kid that is broke does not look for a new engine unless something is wrong. When you got primer as paint a new engine just because is just b.s.

And just as it says above, nothing you or anyone of his former or current friend say can change it.

Right now he is a looser, cheater, theif and a dirt bag. Let him get on here and defend himself not all his girlfriends!

absolutely no correlation at all. not everyone has an issue with primered body. Some prefer to put importance and money towards funtion over aesthetics. MY body is dented, rusted, stripping of paint, and looks nowhere near as good as a raddle can primer job would look yet I am still not in the market for a new paint job.

and like I said...I never attempted to say that he didn't do something wrong knowingly, just that it IS POSSIBLE that he had no idea.

Evidently function is not important either if the engine shit the bed

man i hate to hear that....i dont know what i would do but i would def. do something other than just accept it...go to his house...take him to court...do something....NC4X4 has got ur back if u wanna go that way. and if they dont I do at least...also for the record my brother is a great mechanic in kernersville near WS cause i saw u asked if anyone knew a mechanic in the area.

jeepercreature, that was a real mature comment man.

sorry that i took time out of my day to try to contact him on shaunmabe's (who i don't know) behalf. i was just trying to get his side of the story that everyone seemingly wanted to know. i gave my past experiences with him, and what he told me. i never said it was the ultimate and absolute truth. i also advised him to post up; which he replied he'd rather call the guy himself. that was his call. i'm tired of being a mediator and i'm done with the situation. i hope you two can figure everything out, best of luck to you both.

Was not directing it towards you dude, Just the fact that he has logged in and not commented makes him a jerk and....(see prior post)

Did not mean to bust the guys up that are getting on hear and defending him. He is a complete looser and needs to get his ass on here and let us know his side of the story. Sorry, he is guilty until proven innocent based on the info we all have.

aight, no problem, i agree he should post up, but we'll have to see.

also, shaunmabe, no offense at all intended but if i were in your position where i was going to trade my jeep for another vehicle, i would for sure take it to a shop and get it checked out or bring my mechanic buddy to take a look at it and make sure everything is straight. even if it costs something to get that done, it's worth it to know nothing is wrong.
