bad sellers scrappy1982 and cherokeecody

Like said.... yes there is bad grammar, but the point is made. Don't deal with these guys. Sad part is these two have probably read this and the comments made, shrugged their shoulders and not giving a F@$K. It's a bad situation that just needed to be aired out. Mistakes were made on both sides and lessons learned.

Sounds like your on your way to having a pretty nice buggy now, as much as it sucks, I'd move on with my build. Unless you take them to court you'll probably never see the money. Good luck and Thanks for the info on these asshats

It just keeps getting deeper and deeper.

But on the bright side, the w56 is a great trans and a very nice overall setup that give you years of wheeling enjoyment. You dont "need" the deeper first gear and higher spline count.

Just kidding. I'm a jerk...

I remember reading about this a while back, its really sad that some people think its OK to fawk people in deals. I for one would rather give the parts away than have have that kind of crap weigh on my shoulders. But that's the difference in a person of intergrity and one who thinks integrity is an import car.

I came very close to dealing with one of those guys a while back, but got a bad vibe and bailed.

I have pulled axles apart to verify chromos and gears before. Its a pain in the ass and you get called bad names and it offends people, but when someone gets the short end of the stick it happens anyway.

Just a few lessons I've learned in the past with dealings:

1. Although it acts like a locker, it may not be. A battery impact and an oil pan can check that in about 2-3 minutes. The oil will tell you more than anything anyways. Look for silvery metal chips. Save the oil though, take it home and let it sit and then pour off the best portion off the top if it is clear enough to re-use.
2. Simply never buy/sell a used axle without the cover removed anyways. It's just proto-call for nobody has X-ray vision. Items wear even sitting still in your shop without you knowing. Or unless you just had it serviced at ECGS. :flipoff2:
3. Same goes if you are selling chromos. Unless you have receipts / pictures, pull them before selling an axle. Or give a money back warranty of some kind.
4. If someone gets butt hurt for you testing / inspecting, simply offer a price on the spot that you can live with "As-Is" to take it and go on. Or simply just go on.
5. I work hard for my money, I will make sure it is spent well no matter how long it takes / pains needed. Prepare by taking the tools you need to inspect with. If ever called names, return the favor.:fuck-you: What's to hide when you are selling something??? The guilty dog usually barks first!
6. A "word" is never just a "word" from someone you are not acquainted with and especially don't live close to without references or a warranty. Could be just a "word" they were told and only relaying.
7. Never travel somewhere and buy for someone else unless you send plenty of pictures for a confirmation before dragging it home. What looks good to you may not for others. I did this one time and never again.
8. Buying used "fab-work" 8 times out of 10 can / and most likely will bite you in the ass in the long run unless the fabricator is well known and experienced. Fabrication skills should never be taken lightly when your life / personal protection is at risk. A tire carrier / or roof rack sure. A cage, NOT! A few more dollars up front can most likely save you money in the long run on a cage / chassis. And re-sale value is more too.
9. You can only blame yourself after you shake hands and leave with something that is not what you had expected when you get home. A deal is a deal regardless of the stink you create afterwards. Unless it has some sort of warranty.
10. After you sell something to someone, they have full right to do whatever they want to with it. It's NO LONGER YOURS!!! I'm guilty of this one (once) myself. Sorry again Doc!
11. If you are un-knowledged about the item you are looking at to purchase, pay someone else who IS to go look at it with / for you.
12. It helps to buy from a closer knit forum such as NC4x4 but it still ain't 100%.
13. If you plan on further sales by means of the source you are selling from (CL / NC4x4 / etc.), Simply man up and present at least a 2 week money back guarantee from day of sales. I guarantee everything that leaves my premises for at least 2 weeks. If you can sell / do it once, you can sell / do it again...
14. Know what you are selling or be up front on an "As-Is" basis and price if you can't prove it. Anything is inspect-able / besides inside of a sealed tube (see #8 above).
15. Always consider forgiving. Never consider forgetting!!! Once bitten twice shy. But save some from the end of your life-span for excessive worrying and simply lick your wounds and move on. I towed a vehicle for my 3 door down neighbor from downtown Winston Salem to Durham and never even got a pat on the back. He had the nerve to call me again needing another tow not too soon after. :shaking: You can only hope with time / what comes around will travel back around. But don't be stupid and try to get back in any evil way. Karma works both directions...
16. "Assume" is just that... "Ass U Me"...

checking for a locker isn't a 2-3 minute job in the yota world, but I get your point on most vehicles.

Sure it it - jack up the truck, put trans in N or remove driveshaft, and carefully spin a wheel, watch the other one and the pinion...

This still doesn't verify whether its welded or a detroit or a lockright/spartan etc.

I feel for ya on this one man. I was looking at the same pile of parts and about made an offer on it too and would not have waited this long to publicize a stink about it. You're a better man than I am for that and have showed a lot of patience. It sucks you basically paid 2500 for some scrap, axle housings, a run of the mill W56 and a possibly geared case. Maybe $600 worth of stuff in my book.

Keep up the hard work on the buggy though. Its going to be sweet when its done.

A welded spider jumping teeth will act and sound identical to a Detroit.

Folks, if you're going to weld it... Weld it solid. Welding just spiders never works...

I could have done a much better job at checking the parts what I did do was resurch both guys on here and both had been active for over 5 years with nothing negative so I figured it was pretty safe bet that is the propose of this thread so when people surch in the future they will see this

Quoted for truth. I couldn't have written this better myself. My rule of thumb is to never spend more than you're willing to lose. I buy about a grand a month in 73-79 ford truck parts, not a huge amount, but if some sort of proof can't be provided, in the form of receipts, printouts or visual inspection...I take that as it's a lie and offer accordingly. Most sellers are just as uninformed as the buyers, what they thought was a mechanical locker, but they didn't know it wasn't. The PO told them what the drivetrain was and that it was rebuilt. Maybe that's the not the case here, but I always go in to a deal thinking the seller has no clue. Typically, if the item ends up being half as good as the seller thinks it is, I'll be happy. Sounds like a raw deal. Don't know if the seller was as uninformed as the buyer, or if it was intentional.

I'm not sure what the protocol, if any, is for dealing with things like this. All I can say is I think Josh has handled all this bullshit pretty damn well. Pretty much nothing on that buggy is what they said it was. I hope as a board and as a community some justice will be served in one way or another. ?

Ban them from the board.

most Toyota axles don't have "covers"...

I hate when this happens. I have made some good friendships dealing with people on this forum. I usually just go on %100 word and a handshake. Sorry man, it will come back.

Wha'ts "proto-call"?

pro·to·col
ˈprōdəˌkôl,ˈprōdəˌkäl/
noun
noun: protocol
  1. 1.
the official procedure or system of rules governing affairs of state or diplomatic occasions. :flipoff2:
At least it's "MY" rule of thumb if "I" am to buy an axle with a removable cover...

Ban them from the board.
If you ban them, they will re-register under new names and screw people.
I'd much prefer knowing who to trust.

well... at least one of them agrees with you.
