Best Barbecue Joint

Y'all gotta go to Lewis BBQ in Greenville SC sometime. It's Texas pit style. Straight up LEGIT.
Bring a empty gut and some $$$. Ain't cheap, but it's absolutely amazing
That's one of the best places I've ever eaten. The original is in Charleston, and i plan to go there next weekend. I'll make sure to add pics.

I'm partial to Lexington style and don't care for the full Vinager of down east. I'll eat it, but not my favorite. Around me for simple eats, Speedy's was my go to in Lexington. Unfortunately, they just closed the original that I've eaten at my whole life to wooden the road. I think they are supposed to own elsewhere.

But damn, Lewis's..... just damn.

Lewis ain’t bad at all! The original is in Charleston. Greenville isn’t quite the same for some reason.

If we bringing SC into the conversation pigout in Spartanburg on new cut….hole in the wall. Cash only. 1 pig a day, when the meat is gone they close up shop. But….it’s fight ya mamma good

They are right beside the dodge dealer ship by the steak house now, I think that’s 64?!? Haven’t been to that location yet. But you could never beat their price to portion. One plate feeds a family

Agreed. The one in Charleston has more...soul.
Went to college at Spartanburg Tech. Familiar with that BBQ joint assuming it's the same one from 27 years ago

Gimme 1/2 lb brisket, couple hot guts and some beans and I'm a (fat) happy boy.
When you coming up here again? 😎 We need to go to Lewis

Don’t think it’s that same place. I don’t think he’s been around that long.

The original owner passed away in 2015 but his SIL cooks the same recipe

Speedy's

Bums is the unsung hero of the whole thread. They get overlooked so often because of the jones, but they've got top notch food. And Larry is a hoot 🤣

Bum’s has always been underrated but certainly has a solid following, kind of like Parker’s. But I’d never put Parker’s on a “best eastern nc BBQ” list. I’d put Smithfield’s on that list before Parker’s.

We try to hit up Bum’s regularly. I even hit them up for breakfast as often as I can. Good stuff.

Another really good but unmentioned spot is Marty's in Wilson. It was started by Bill Ellis's son Lawrence after the Bills implosion. Every evening the line is around the building and backed up Forrest Hills road for takeout

Been to Lewis BBQ in Charleston, it was fantastic.

Y'all know the rule about how to ID a good BBQ place right?

The "Anthropomorphism rule".
Just look at their sign / logo. The better the joint, the more humanized the pig is.
Your basic place that just has a side profile of a pig - probably OK.
But if that pig has a smile and a face - mo betta.
And the best is always the hole in the wall, hand-drawn smiling pig holding a fork and knife over a plate of meat.
Because... even the cannibal pig knows its where its at
