I did a search and found this relic... Best BBQ

Looking for updated options. A lot seem to be no longer there or something different. Mostly after good ol' Eastern Carolina places, but open to anything. Really like the places with no website or facespace page, just good old fashioned joint.

X2 on Haywood. Always hit it when that way. Anytime I come off i85 onto 11 I hit the spotted pig. One thing I miss from my NCSU days was a little whole in the wall past Hillsborough, had great eastern style but don't remember the name (circa 90-94 ish)

Are you talking about A&M BBQ in Mebane?
A&M wasn't eastern style. They did their own unique sauce which I guess would be classified under Lexington style. As someone who loves real bar-b-q (eastern style), I have to say damn near nowhere around Charlotte knows anything about it. Smithfields may legitimately be the best in town, lol.

Little Richard's is my go to, though I prefer their carolina gold spudzilla.

Bears in Asheville has decent brisket but I’m not a fan of the sauces. Maybe if I brought my own sauce…

12 Bones is legit. Obama screw up a bunch of stuff, but I’ll not hold it against 12 Bones. Their sides are fantastic…particularly the corn pudding.

Okie Dokies is solid and always consistent. I know the owner and he’s a great guy. Can’t go wrong here for an off the radar crowd pleaser.

Eastern style in Asheville (disclaimer is I’ve only been once) has to be Buxton Hall. The guy is from OBX and does whole hog and he’s a chef. It’s really frigging good all the way around.

Further east I make excuses and will take a half day detour to hit Lexington BBQ.

But if you really want good Q, just give me some heads up and I can rival anyone in my back yard. Parking sucks but you can piss in the yard and enjoy scenic mountain views fireside. And the occasional impromptu BB gun Olympics (not sanctioned by any governing body) is well worth the free price of admission.

Allen and sons BBQ was near Hillsborough. Now closed as well as A&M is closed for good, in Mebane.

Appreciate the offer, sounds intriguing. I can make some pretty good butt at home, I've "catered" for my niece, and son's baby momma many times for various parties. I'm mostly in search for those hole in the wall old places that I can hit up when on a random road trip.

Skylight Inn or Sam Jones BBQ for eastern whole hog.

Big Mikes in Mills River
Johnny Rays in Fallston isnt the best bbq Ive had, but its good, and his burgers/wings are awesome.
JDs BBQ in Valdese
Apple City BBQ in Taylorsville.

Never heard of Big Mikes. I’ll have to give it a try sometime soon.

Sonny's Barbecue is the best BBQ in the state. Their BBQ pairs great with ketchup.
