Best way to drop weight on a TJ

@shawn I may know where another one is...

My 98 4.0, auto, 33s, stock axles, no rear seat, full spare on carrier, tube front, xrc8k winch with steel cable was just shy of 3900 without me in it (220). That was on a set of scales at the quarry.

you decide to pull the NV4500 I wanna

They say this jeep has the same power to weight ratio as a srt8 grand cherokee. I would love to get a little seat time in it!!

@jeepinmatt

I just put my 04 TJ on a scale.

4,160 pounds.

4.0L 5 speed

1/2 tank of gas

No doors

Soft top

No carpet or back seat, front suspension seats

1/4" steel engine skid, tummy tuck and gas tank skid

Mix of currie & rokmen johnny joint short arms

Front & rear diff sliders

Aluminum wheels with 35" mtr/k, spare is tub mounted using an exogate

Stock axles

Aluminum front and rear bumpers with aluminum fairlead mount and winch deck

Warn 9.5ti winch with synthetic line

Aluminum front fenders, sliders and rear armor

Poly performance front half cage, no padding

4" coil springs 1.25" body lift

Should be able to get to 4,000 pounds by ditching the steel under armor for aluminum.

3,500 pounds is going to be tough to pull off.

Shit, that's more than what it seems it would be, mine must be closer to 5k with all the steel I run.

I first started making my belly pan out if 1/4" steel. I just started marking shit and said fuck that and went with 1/4" 6061-651 aluminum and it's maybe a quarter of the weight. So I wouldn't be surprised if you can get down to 3950-3975 just switching to aluminum belly pan and fuel tank skid. If you were able to run a cell behind the rear seat it wouldn't be a bad idea, mainly because you won't need a skid at all and they hang down like hell on a TJ/LJ

First thing to go is full steel doors. Swap to half doors or even full soft doors. Bumpers are a big weight issue for many - not sure what you have there. Pull the back seat, rear seatbelts, and mounting hardware. Next I'd swap to an aluminum gas tank skid. It's not a big weight savings, but it really protects. After that try to thing about what you have added and remove those things - lights - CB - tool bag - winch - etc.

If you want to defy gravity don't build a tank.

I weighed my 97 TJ Monday on our scales at work. 3800lbs and pretty much like yours....

No doors, bikini top, stock cage, metal cloak fenders, smity corner guards, hp 30 with WJ knuckles and brakes, 8.8 with stock brackets, Barnes front bumper with harbor freight 12k winch and synthetic line, warn rear bumper, custom long arms from metalworx, 16" rubis and 35x14.50 pitbull rockers, and 1/2 tank and me out of it.

Fawk, now I want to know what ours weighs.

^^^ they took our jerbs! :D

Y'all don't read the John Fuller threads, do you?

Only if his posts are 5 sentences or less and actually make sense, so... no...

No. I just love the episodes of South Park when they say "took our jobs".

John Fuller is a dipshit.

How can all of these TJs weight more than my V8 Ranger (4125 lbs)? I thought I was chubby, geez.

Replace all of that heavy steel plating with aluminum, aluminum wheels in place of steelies and swap out those gaudy bumpers with lightweight ones from Barnes4wd.
