Big Tap and Die in Raleigh Area?

I bought a set of new rear control arms and the threads inside the tubes and messed up. As a result, the johnny joints wont screw into the tube enough to install. I think some of the powder coating got inside on the threads. I'd rather not go through the hassle and expense of shipping them back to the manufacturer. Does anyone know where I can borrow or buy a tap and die big enough to clean the 0.75" and 1.25" threads? Or a shop in the area that could do it? Thanks in advance.

if its just to chase out the threads and some mild clean up, buy a similar sized/pitch bolt and make a 1/4" cut into he threaded area straight on. Then feather the edge out on the one side. You may need to touch up the threads on the bolt with a small file. This makes a simple cutter. I've tapped aluminum with this method in a pinch.

See pic. blue is cut out area...

That should actually work for what I need. Thanks, Mike. I'll give it a shot

Be careful, thats a good way to crossthread the bolt and links if you aren't careful

I have a 3/4" tap and a 1.25" tab LH and RH if you want to do it the right way. I work in Cary and pass thru Raleigh M-F.

excellent point, which is why I left out the use of an impact to run it in...

Thanks for the offer Rob. I talked to the manufacturer today and they are sending me 3 new arms. If these are the same way I will definitely take you up on it. Hopefully they'll be ok though.
