I am planning on taking the wifey there for her Birthday in 2 weeks. I have always wanted to go and so has she...any cool things to do that are extra or around that area after we are done with the tour and wine tasting?

Thought about doing more wine tastings (for her) in hopes for a fun car drive home :)

They've got some really good wines there. The wine tasting is fun but try and find a group that's not a bunch of pretentious snobs..... unless you like that kind of thing.

When me and my wife went a few years ago we took a behind the scene tour and had a good time going into the basement and seeing everything. The guides are worth it because they can give you the story instead of you just looking at all the neat stuff.

Is that something you pay exra for once you get there? I was looking at what all the admission ticket included....I mean I don't know to go overboard, but if we are already there, why not?

I want to be able to look around there and take my time and take pics and really take it all in and not be rushed along.

I think it was a little extra, but to me it was worth it. After the tour is over, you can explore on your own.
Also depending on where you Bank/work you may be able to get discount tickets to get into Biltmore, If I can remember I think regular price is around $50!
There is also a little place to eat there that had some killer roasted chicken, but it was high as well. Me and my wife went there as an anniversary date and I'm usually a cheap bastard, but went all out for this one. It was a fun day and actually didn't suck like I thought it would. Total spent was around $120-150 I think but we didn't Do the wine tasting.

Yeah, if you order tickets at least 7 days in advance, you can get in for $44 ea. so not bad at all. Also, just re-read what the admission includes and its a SELF-guided tour....which is awesome, I was thinking you went with a group of people and had to move along with them...I wanted to be able to take my time and really enjoy everything. A lady I work with was telling me about the bistro they have there and she said it was high but good.

Sounds like it should be fun. def. something different, which is what we need.

My wife and I buy season passes every year.
Get their in the morning because it takes a full day for a first timer to see everything and when your ready for lunch try the stable cafe over where the gift shops are at the price really are not that bad as compared to any other sit down restaurant and yes the chicken is very good and I recommend the feast for 2 but I really dont care for the sweet tea their.
Then i normally go walk it off with a walk down to the gardens and greenhouses their is also another gift shop under the greenhouses oh and while your their their is a clean restroom behind and to the right of the greenhouses lol.
Then I make it back tothe car and drive till I get to one of the pulloffs at the bass pond and take another stroll around the pond and waterfall their is another garden path leading back up toward the house if you go past the gazebo on the pond and I like to walk it but thats why I park my vehicle by the pond so that its down hill back to the car and I can have the energy to get back to it.
As you are going out you will come up on antler hill village and the winery but go to the village first and go out to the blacksmith shop the guys name is Doc he ownes a local shop and does demos and repairs for the estate he is fun to watch and pay attention to his hands because he can hold a cherry piece of metal and never flinch.
The first time I met and watched him he looked at me and said I can tell that you are wondering how hot this is and he dropped his hand in a bucket of water and it sizzled lol. Also ask him to play the anvil he likes doing that and not many people know about it.
Then take her for a wine tasting and if theirs and money left in your pocket the bistro always smells nice when your leaving the winery
I have never been in their because the numbers on the right side of the menu out front scares the hell out of me.
That is a full day of fun so I doubt you will be looking for much more to do but if your still in feel free to pm me and ill tell you some more about Asheville.

^^^^^ Awesome info.
See, I was thinking the tour was only a couple hours and then your done...I didn't realize you can stay all day and just walk around and do whatever...

I def would like to do the wine tasting for sure....get a little buzz going and continue to sight see.

If you are making a weekend out of it, eat at 12 Bones and hear some live music at the Orange Peel.

Those are my two favorite things in Asheville.

(well aside from stopping by the lumber yard and hanging out with @Jody Treadway , his boss Lisa and the company CEO Denver)

Also, theres lots of good eating in Asheville, and architecture at the spa at the Grove Park Inn is unbelievable if you've got money to burn.

Off-road Segway tours and horseback riding can be fun if you have the extra time.

If you are looking to book a motel, do it ASAP as they fill up quickly. There is so much to do in downtown just like @Ron said. Barley's Taproom, LAB brewery, Wedge brewery and especially Wicked Weed brewing are great places to hang and eat. Orange Peel always has live music as does many other venues.
If you are looking for outdoorsy stuff to do check out Chimney Rock, Navitat zip line tours or hike up Looking Glass Rock in Brevard.
We get yearly Biltmore passes too. Just like @novacayne75 said, there is a lot more to do than just tour the house. We hike there frequently, chill at the stables and the food is awesome. If you play your cards right, you can sample enough wine to get buzzed and sample enough goodies across from the Bistro to save a dinner tab.
If the smell of burnt gear oil is her thing, my shop is about a mile from the airport :D

Let me know if you need any info about Asheville and I'll gladly help.

Good Thai restaurants in town...

I was looking at maybe us having lunch at the Deep Park Restaurant. looks like its Buffet style @18.95 a person for Saturday Lunch...anyone been here? I also saw the stable, which looks good too.

Also, once you leave the estate, can you back in with same ticket? Like if we wanted to go eat and then come back?

I dont know if you can leave and return we have never had a regular ticket. Deer park is on the other side of the estate so you would want to plan when you want to be in each location because the estate is not acres it's miles lol.
