Took it down to bare dirt, worked with other subs to install new utility runs (water for us, electrical for neighbor) and is pouring new concrete today. He already did the neighbor's garage and it turned out well. He's been really great to work with, and his price was good too.
I'm not a fan of asphalt for a driveway unless it's a pretty long one... and especially not if you're going to be bringing the bus across it or wanting to use the occasional floor jack/trailer landing gear/trailer ramp/etc/ on it.
