My next door neighbor has this 88 M6:

I just finally met dude the other day after living next door to him since Dec 17. Only had a chance to talk to him for 5 minutes when he knocked on my door and told me I could park my GMC in his driveway while my new driveway is getting done. Always though it looked cool had to ask if it was for sale.

Apparently they imported less than 1,800 of these to the US?

My neighbor only wants $300 for it. He actually said he had called some junk car guys and they wouldn’t take it with no title!

It’s been Partially gutted. Has a rear cage and harnesses, was his dads track car.

He said was nothing wrong with it that he knew of, but has been sitting about 3 years.

Anything special to look for or anything other than the normal stuff to do to try and get it back running?

I’ve owned a shit- Ton of cars and this is my first BMW.

No title makes it virtually worthless, but older sharknose E24 parts are getting harder to come by, so it may be worth parting out. 3.5L in-line 6 just shy of 300hp. 635csi/M6 cars have always given me a bit of a eurotrash chub. But that things in its current state would be a blast to LS swap and make into a track day car. I only say that because the older inline 6’s can be fairly expensive to rebuild.

I would say get it running and see how it does. Most everything that era BMW has driveshaft bushing (guibo) issues at some point. Also rear shock towers like to fail in older BMW’s too when driven hard.

I think the title could be obtained pretty easy unless..

Not worried about the value of the car, the gutted interior throws that out the window. It’s a track car now.

My plan is to gut it even more, sell those parts for $$$ and get paid to improve the performance. I think I can easily recoup my investment +more.

Then beat it like it owes me money!

His story sounds legit, but I was planning on calling a lost title place I’ve used before out of curiosity to check cost to get one.

E24 has been on my dreamcar list for years. I loved them!!! Looks like a 83-85

Virtually worthless without a title.

In that case, damn son....I'm jealous

It'll be worth a trip to Winston to talk to Billy at Motorsports connections (336) 659-8988

Billy raced BMW's for many years, and was a tech before opening his own shop. Now only works on BMW/Merc/Mini. He's a wealth of knowledge and can likely source what you need, and move what you don't. I wouldn't just call and try to talk that out...I'd show up. His daughter Katie runs the front counter....she's cute too. Cute enough to make the trip worth it :smokin: She knows her stuff though, so don't go in thinking she's just some blonde that don't know anything...Hell SHE may be a better source than Billy these days.

Nice score if it all works out

Those are cool cars and yes there were few imported from what I have read.... Nice find!

When my current DD ('04 330xi @ 220K) gets to the point it isn't worth fixing... will be looking for something in the 6xx/7xx class for an LS swap

price seems right, having owned a 330i / 6 speed I can say it was a heck of a car, and I will probably never own a bmw again unless it is reduced to a shell with lsx and t56 guts shoehorned into it.....ford and lincoln have drop out IRS 8.8 that would probably be right at home too.
Don't restore it, gut it, track it, and be done with it.
24 hrs. of lemons anyone??????

Door tags says 88.

If I can ever catch up with dude again I’m gonna get and run the VIN .... Ron got me nervous...

And thanks for the good info!!

Buy it ..... you could probably at least double your money here.
But if I were into that.
Buy it, find some way to title it ( gotta be a way) get it running and drive it like I stole it in street racer form.

So I caught him mowing his lawn today, told him I wanted to buy the car.

He handed me the key and said I could do whatever I wanted.

So I was able to give it a once over and found it’s got some goodies on it.

Header, exhaust, suspension mods etc.

I’m thinking this was a pretty legit race car back in the day!
