Well after trying to figure out what the thumping was in my rear I pulled it and found this.

looks like all your teeth were thinning, and like it might have a fooed up wear, maybe it just the pics.

The gear has less that 2 runs on it. I doubt it was wear. It should have been setup correctly for less than 25mph driving. It looks to me like there was a defect in the steel which resulted in one tooth breaking and taking out a few more.

Appears to have quite the heat markings down in the root of the gear...especially on the coast side view...you gotta have some backlash...I don't care what you're doing...:driver:

Or maybe i'm seeing that contact patch in reverse...either way...not looking exactly right...but who can say for sure when it's all blowed up.

did you follow the break-in recommendation

if thats the pattern form only 25 miles of driving i would be suspect. little backlash and a spool a couple .001's out which is common even with new ones. could result in no backlash at some point in the rotation resulting in destruction very shortly. maybe looked good in one spot but not so good in another. i would check the runout on that carrier before putting it back together. but like Will said no one knows for sure, and pics don't really say a million words. could be a digital illusion.

Do you know what the back lash was when it was set up and also what the marking pattern was. Is the spool damaged? If not can you check back lash and gear marking on the teeth that are not damaged? If so post up your findings and pictures of the gear marking. As you stated though I could be a faulty gear.

backlash

I checked the backlash at about 9 thousands which was well within factory speck. to the best of my knowledge.

I will post better quality photos soon.
