Ok it's been a while since I've been in the build scene. But I'm considering building a truck for towing and mild play. What I have is a 1996 F250 Srw 2wd. It's 7.3 powerstroke. I love the truck but I want it 4wd. Everything I have found is it's not worth converting to 4wd. I'm looking for input and options. Is this worth pursuing or let it go? Also if it is what's the best route to go about doing it? Is it better to find a wrecked 4wd for the rolling chassis and swap my body or buy everything for my chassis? Is I'm going to put it on my frame what's the difference in 4wd and 2wd frame?? All input is greatly appreciated..

I may be wrong but I thought the frames were the same minus a few holes you may need to drill for suspension hangers.

if you have the time then every project is worth it as long as you dont look at the cost of it :)

I think you may need to do a lot more google searching to see if frames are the same or not

Sell your truck and buy a 4wd one.

did the 96 F250 have a solid axle, or was it still the days of the TTB front suspension? I would not spend time with the latter, but if I liked the rest of the truck I would certainly consider a solid axle swap.

250 has a ttb but you can do a direct swap with the same year F350 using axle, steering, and leaf springs. You can even use the hubs off the ttb axle to swap if using a dually front axle.

I don't know for sure, but I would bet that 2wd frames are identical to 4wd frames.

Either way, like the others said, I would just go buy a 4wd and spend all of that time and money on another project.
