I decided to replace the retaining wall at my house with something that was not falling down. It is still under construction. Full write up to come.. Retaining Wall Pictures
Not going to bash u but there are alot of better choices for materials than timbers.
I am in the SRW business if you need help let me know, these walls are not something to be taken lightly
I understand that there is a lot of other material choices out there but I had this material and felt that it would work for me. This Wall was constructed by following guidelines for supporting weight greater that this wall will ever see. There is a 3/4 inch by 12 foot long piece of rebare driven down on each corner and 4-5 12 inch nails holding the timbers in place. There is erosion conrtol fabric on the back side of the wall all the way around as well as 12 inches back from the wall on the dirt. There is also 3 foot of gravel at the base of this wall. I also installed a perforated 4 inch drain pipe in the gravel from one end to another. the pipe is connected to a drain line that goes all the way to the street. The wall that this replaced stood for over 40 years and it had no drainage and no back support. It was also constructed of bricks and block with no seepage holes to allow presure to release. I think this wall will stand the test of time. so please offer your opinions on how it could have been built better or stronger.
