Burning Money

Been a while... zero updates on the jhf chassis just as life intended. Been busy riding and being a dad. Wagon got 300m 40 spline stubs, 300m joints, and 300m 35 spline inners from Branik though. And new dig tires. Made another 24 hour ride two weekends ago that was epic. 75 miles and atomic ridge in the dark again with a cracker barrel breakfast around the 18 hour mark :smokin:

Got quite a bit of parts collected for the jhf. It should be going in the shop this fall. Somebody tell me i'm making a mistake by running axles narrower than 69"... it's not too late for me to splice the 60 back together at factory length. Still questioning a few things on the steering angles but time will tell I guess. Good thing I hate money.

Wider with high backspace wheel will be easier to fit and will be easier to steer at high angles.

Update time. Bought a 2003 rubicon from a buddy that was a slight project. 90,000 miles, turbo 4.0, hp d44 and 9" axles. Rear 3rd was blew out of it, steering was a deathtrap on the road, typical jeep issues. Rebuilt the rear axle and went to a 4.56 gear and open carrier to ditch the spool. Same had to be done to the front, 4.56 and added an aussie locker. It already had a longarm kit so the suspension is ok for a street jeep/ mild wheeler. All the heims were wore out on the hp44 steering. Ditched all of that for a one ton tre kit from barnes, drives much better now. Went ahead and added an antirock tot he front since there were no swaybars on it at all. Removed all the turbo stuff so it actually runs good now and changed the trans oil to make 2nd gear happier again. Should be a fun little jeep and something to take momma out in some.

In other news, me and dad bought a 4800 car that is about 90% ready for 4800 class. 408 stroker, th400, 2.0 race case, goatbuilt chassis, tons, trailing arms, big shocks, etc. The buggy had never been raced and honestly hadnt been trail rode but maybe 10 times. The spring rates were all out of whack. After talking with our buddy Chris at Diddys Big Block Race Shop, we got the front springs fixed and ready to move to the back now. We need to mount 37s, then do some testing. Hoping to get with Chris soon for some valving. Stay tuned.

Yes, this put a damper on the JHF only because of shop space. Racecars > required shop space to actually work on stuff.

Been busy this winter so far. Finished up the trailing arms on dads buggy, new Ron Davis radiator in the wagon, and finally starting on axles for the jhf. Decided to go fab 9 in the front with gear works load bolt case and standard 9" gears with kingpin outers. Ready to start riding again.

No pictures, my bad dawg... but rear axle Cs are tacked on at 10* pinion and 7* caster. Got the front 3rd member built and it turns out the ecgs 9" spool is too wide for the load bolt in the case. Got to pull it back apart and grind on the spool for load bolt clearance. Decided to change out the old welded 14b carrier for a 40 spline spool since I have to order custom length shafts anyway.

In other news, took the shocks off the racecar to prepare for tuning this Friday with Diddys Big Block Race Shop at Blue Holler. The Trec season starter is less than two months away and we have a shit load of stuff to do. All in all we aint got enough time each day and basically hate money.

Also, for those wondering, buy the racecar because your family is already disappointed.

This year is flying by and is the least i've rode in years at this point. As we prepared the 4800 car for the trec season, we destroyed the motor. It turns out that not all oil pans are made like the Mast pan and a dumb mistake on our part by capping the oil cooler lines destroyed the 408. We picked up a 6.2 and it is currently getting freshened up while reusing out yuge cam and heads. Should be in the 500+ range. Weve got a hell of a cool downhill derby car though . Picked up a fab housing from Chris at DBBRS for the rear also. The quality of this housing is unreal compared to others and it is all dom and steel so never any cracking issues as opposed to a spidertrax housing. We also have one on order for the front that will be using ECGS new super kingpin Cs. We are hoping to make the last trec race in september then move into changing the axles this winter.

Trail riding, made the 3rd annual 24hr ride in May and it was a flop. It turned into 20 hours of rain but we still had fun and good people showed up plus the mexican food that night was on point.

This last weekend, me and pops put the wagon in werock at Dayton. Wasnt doing terrible for a big gurl until I got too excited and wrecked. This got me wanting to get back to working on the axles for the jhf. Maybe one day I can get that thing in the shop.

Shop progress has been slow lately due to an apartment overhaul. Good news is that the race car motor will be back in a few weeks but not in enough time for the last Trec race. Meanwhile, my brother from another mother is deployed fighting for our country and his Crane axle 14 bolt came in so me and pops are fixing it up for him. This is literally a F U axle. Quality and parts are unreal from wod. Shoutout to those guys, especially Jimmy, for being awesome to work with.

Can't tell you how nice it is for summer to be coming to an end and more shop time now. Getting closer on Clark's buggy. Steering done, all hoses and brake lines rerouted except the driver side, pinion bridge was Uber ghey to put together cause the guard had to welded up. Got some 2.5 radflos ordered from my homie Chris at Diddys Big Block Race Shop and should be here next week. Got some minimal welding to do still, set up bump pads, and set up shocks. Almost ready to party.

Got bump pads made for Clark's, driveshaft be here Tuesday, and should have shocks next week also.

Back to building axles tonight. Cut the already set and tacked Cs off the rear steer axle and trimmed the housing another 1.25". Got everything set back up at 15* pinion angle and 7-8* caster. Should be around 66.5" wms. Started pressing bearings on the 40 spline china spool but much like my wiener, ran out of stroke before bottoming out. Hoping to have more progress tomorrow.

Looking good buddy

Basically and endless amount of measuring today. Carriers in and out multiple times and by the words of @Jody Treadway tight is tight when setting up used gears and reusing bolts :laughing::laughing:. All rear 40 spline shafts are ready to be ordered when I'm not poor.
Also after a stupid amount of measuring, I cut the short side of the fab housing. Everything lined up as perfect as I could have hoped and tapped one C on. We are ready to cut the long side now.

The front 3rd member had to come apart cause I was cheap and used a Yukon spool instead of a gear works so now the spool don't clear the load bolt. Good thing grinders love spools. Once the 3rd is back together, will be ready to set some kind of pinion angle and caster.

Back to Clark's buggy. Got the motor mount tie in he wanted fixed back. Drive shaft came in from Adams and it was perfect, great quality. And got the roof braces but in and panels cut around them. These are critical for support and not sure why most builders don't add them.
Had some major complications with the mounts for the new 2.5s but think we have a game plan now. Hoping to get that situated tomorrow.

Got Clark finished up today just in time for him to come home Tuesday. Upper shock mounts fought up bad. Happy with how it turned out. Now it needs trailing arms and bypasses in the back.

Got some Cs mocked on the trail mart housing. 13* pinion and 7* caster. I'm using a factory length gm60 short side shaft. Going to have to cut the C back off and cut the tube another 1/4" for some more spline engagement. It has 1.5" but I'd prefer a little more.

3rd is half ass back together and now the load bolt works. Need to set backlash. Also welded the Cs on the rear steer trash axle. Good day.
