Callalente July 4th weekend...

Oh 31's will make it alright? Was curious about that.. Hoping to get 33's before then, but we will see.. I may be able to make it out there, its < 100 miles..

jeesh people...come on with what you got and stop worrying.

well maybe some of us need to drive home what we wheel! as long as i have $100 to burn on broken parts i'll go.. plus gas,food,lodging... someone'll have a winch, right? i got solid pull points, but nothing to pull with but a toy boat winch(2000 lb)

As ord.sgt.26NC has said, he wheels a bone stock '50 M38 up there with no winch and has never needed one. I've only ever had to use my winch once for myself but it was on "Pull Cable" so go figure. I've had to winch other folks out when they attempted trails they or their rig were not prepared for. There are bypasses at almost every obstacle so if it's even questionable, you can take the bypass.

It's a great place. Lots of trails with plenty of obstacles for mild to wild. Just bring what you got. The great thing about going with a group is you're never left behind. If you drove it there and you broke someone will help you get it back home.

that's right.Even tho I will be on my DD wrangler on 31's,I'm still gonna tow it up on my trailer. If there are any problems,it will get back home.

I'll be there if my rig is ready.

Hey witchdoctor! Things are going well. I am working on my rollcage and gathering my stuff for the long arm. The cage should be done before this trip. I hate you missed the Flats, I didnt make it till Sunday but we had a good time as usual! :driver:

newbie

this sounds like a blast! I have a fairly stock rig. but I am wanting to see what it can do in a reasonably safe spot. this sounds like the ticket.

I've been going for over 5 years now and with my stock Willys,I've only had a strap hooked to me one time and that was to pull my front end up the one foot I needed to finnish climbing the waterfall on welder.

My wrangler has a little lift,31 inch MTs, and a sane driver.I see no problems with the trails.

I like distance trail riding so hitting the long climbs and then riding the ridges is what will done alot with us.But then again everything has a bypass so watching others do the hard stuff is doable too.

Hey all, new to the Raleigh area and this forum. I've stayed pretty much on the wrangler forum but heard about this place and jumped on. enough with the intro.
HELL yeah sounds like fun, I'd love to go how many hrs from the Raleigh area? I'll be taking my everyday driver but from what y'all have been posting i feel confident i'll get back one way or the other. Anyone staying all weekend, till monday?

jayc, hopefully Len ( rox/mud)will chime in.He lives over by the fairgrounds in raliegh. He can tell you how long it will take to get there.

I'm staying till the money runs out, food runs out,or the fun runs out.

Hey jayc, welcome to Raleigh and the board.
It takes me in perfect traffic 2.75 hrs and normal traffic 3.5-4 hrs. It really depends on what traffic is like it has taken me almost five hours once but that was unusual. With you driving your rig it will probably be a easier ride, I tow my junk with a motor home which is a little harder to navigate through traffic.

Ride with Jimmy, ord.sgt.NC26, and he and the rest of the group will take care of ya on the trails. Give any of us here a shout if ya got any more questions.

Thanks a lot guys, I really want to make this trip. My everyday is my 97 TJ 3 1/2" lift on 33 BF/AT Bajas. Hope to have the BF KM2s or Dick Crepek Mud and Countries by then tho we'll see. 2.75hrs isnt bad, i drove 2 hrs last weekend to UWharrie with a friend. Whats this place compared to there? we had fun on those trails, stayed on the moderates tho bc had no recovery tools, pretty easy going.

both places are fun for vehicles like ours. The more extreme a vehicle is tho,the fun meter at UNF doesn't register as high.I enjoy Callalente since I can go most places and watch others tear there crap up and then take off, gain altitude, and then ride the ridge lines.I'll be kind of out of my relm a little since I'll be on my 01 wrangler instead of Ole Nellie Belle. We usually go up thanksgiving weekend also and hopefully Nellie will be back up to speed by then.

Ord, your 01 moded or stock? Like i said I stayed on the moderate trails but wouldnt be opposed to some a LITTLE harder with experiance around me. :D
Also do y'all bring tents and hang out all night  ? How's it work when y'all go out, never been with a big group over night, just day trips with friends. thanks for the info, looking fwd to it.

T-bone,sounds like we might be hookin up at some point and time.We still need to figure what our small group is doing as to arrival times and such.
JayC,my wrangler has roughly 3 inches lift and 31 inch MT's. No lockers and nothing special.Just make sure your tow points are good, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, spare parts and tools. We will have 2 sets of dana 35 shafts and spider gears.I might can scrounge up some dana 30 shafts also. My experiences up there have been driving my M38 with no lift and 7.5 inch wide tires. We WILL have a good time.

No problem, it looks like we probably have 5 rigs going that i know of at this point. The more the merrier. My "Mini Monster" (as it is nicknamed by my daughter) has really good tow points and very capable winch when needed. When are you guys going up?
