Dorito is asking people to make a commercial and the winner gets it aired during the super bowl. I have a friend of a friend that's starting a small business as a production company so he figured he'd make a commercial and give it a shot. He's a young guy that lives right in Cary and a win like this would really help him get going. He made the top 5 and now it's up for voting.
There are instructions on how to vote here:

I didn't watch the other four...but his was definitely funny...got my vote...

now, I just have to remember to do it once a day for the next 10 days...:D

Those were all pretty funny!

A guy here at work said he saw your buddies commercial on TV the other day. I guess a news report or something because he also mentioned it costs like $12 to make the film????

confirm, deny?

actually...if you go back to the site and read the stories/Q&A of the entrants, the guy admits it cost $12 (actually $15 including the bag of Doritos he bought for lunch)...

also, his wife was the girl in the commercial, and they only got one take on her falling because she hit her head on the car when she fell...:D

the copy/paste version:

Q: Tell us a little about yourself and your story (who you are, where you're going, where you've been)

A: I was born (barely) 21 years ago in Raleigh, North Carolina, which (after a lot of moving around during my childhood) is where I live today. Two months ago, my wife Cori encouraged me to quit my steady-paying (but boring) sales/marketing job to join a venture with my best friend (Wes Phillips) called Five Point Productions (www.5pointproductions.com): a firm specializing in creative video production (my true passion). As a team, Wes, his brother Barrett, our friend Nick Dimondi and myself set out looking for any opportunity to launch the company into the public eye. A month or so in, during some research, we stumbled across the Doritos "Crash The Super Bowl" contest on the Yahoo Video page only 4 days until the final submission date. After some debate, we decided to give it a stab.

Now, given the unbelievable opportunity to compete as one of the top 5 entries, we can't help but laugh at the fact that we have a chance at setting a record for the cheapest Super Bowl commercial ever produced (it just doesn't get much cheaper than $12). Today, we are just beginning to realize the massive effect this 30 second video could have on the future of our little business forever.

Q: What was your inspiration for "Live the Flavor"?

A: 1AM Saturday morning: after a day and a half straight of group brainstorming (left only with an idea involving the use of a Doritos bag as a car safety feature), Wes (stumbled on and) pitched the idea of personifying the characteristics of Doritos through a 'slice of life', romantic/comedic encounter. Now that the hard part was over, we had nearly 3 whole days to script, produce and upload a finished product... easy. :)

Q: Was there anything interesting or funny that happened during the shoot?

A: With 2 1/2 days left and working with very little sleep, we set off that same morning to shoot. Not anticipating certain variables, the following events would ensue:

- We had a filming budget upwards of 12 dollars, all put towards Doritos. (15 if you count the extra bag of Doritos I bought for lunch that day.)
- We were only able to record one take of Cori's fall, because during that first take, her face actually slammed into the car - hard. Perhaps we should have invested our 12 dollars in a stunt coordinator. :)
- A special Doritos bag was designed to launch the chips out on impact. During the testing phase, a world-record may have been set for vertical-Doritos-launching of over 15 feet.
- Neither Nick nor Cori had any prior acting experience - ever; but they appealed to our budget. :)
- Most of our "dolly" shots (namely those peaking in the car window at Nick) were done on roller-blades.
- Working non-stop, we made the submission time on December 4th with just two hours to spare.

Q: What superpower would you most like to have?

A: I know this is lame, but it would be awesome to be able to fly. Since I can't, I snow ski out west... and that feels close enough to flying most of the time :)

Q: If you wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?

A: "Breaking Tradition". Up to this point, I have lived outside what is typically expected of a person my age. So far, it seems to be working out.

Q: What is your favorite Doritos flavor? Why?

A: Black Pepper Jack - by a long shot. I just love the taste...

I just voted.

FYI you can vote everyday :)

you may want to post this on PBB in chit chat.. they are pretty good about rocking votes :)

Josh from 107.5 KZL in Greensboro won a contest for a commercial that is going to air during the superbowl as well. I don't remember what product it was for...??? I think that it would be really cool to have 2 local guys with commercials during the super bowl.

Good luck to your friend!

That was a good commercial. Very clever and pretty damn funny.

Got my vote.
