I ordered more parts today. My goal is to have the seat and rear fender mounts finished by next Wednesday.....then the frame is gonna be sand blasted and powder coated. The motor/ trans will bead blasted and painted with some kinda fancy JP1 gloss black. The tank and rear fender are going to be. Graphite silver.

I cut out the ugly factory brace that tied the frame rails together.....

Then I cut this to replace it. It should serve as a good mount point for the seat pivot and add strength to the frame. There will be a tube mounted right behing the sheet metal to mount the seat springs.....

I ordered more parts last night......this thing is getting expensive

I decided not to use the rear fender and strut kit that I bought for it. The fender was squared off on the edges and it didn't think it looked right. I used the stock rear fender....It fit really well. I will have to do a little bit of modification and weld some tabs to mount it to the frame.

The seat is also going to me moved forward about 3 inches.....
I should have my electronics tank and battery box in the next two days.

Got some new old school tires that I'm going to mount on a spare set of wheels that are in better condition.

electronics tank mounted....still have to finish weld the caps
I used some scrap 5" exhaust tube and had some end caps made.
I'm going to build the exhaust and wire most of the bike tomorrow.

Nice HD man....
Here's a pic of my DD in it's current state. I might add a cafe racer style seat pretty soon. It's going to get lowered a few inches and some other odds and ends.

Really like the build up. Id love to find either a cb350/550 or a xs650 to build a sweet little bike out of. Where have you found your bikes from? I've been keeping my eye out on craigslist but most dont have the titles for them.
 
Yeh....ill be there. I've got some things to finish up then I'm gonna put the engine/trans from my 550 for the smokeout
 
I did some finish welding tonight....I've got to do a little more...and weld on a tab for drum brake brace. Then sand blasting and paint before reasembly

got a good bit of work to do in 24 days. looks good so far tho man. can't wait to see the finished product at the Smoke Out.

yeh.....I've got a lot of work to do. I been working on it a few hours every night. I sand blast it Friday at work. I've got one exhaust stud broke off in the head...damnit.
 
OUCH!! Gotta love the minor setbacks. happens every time. Especially when you're trying to get it done by a certain time. I think we've all been there a time or two.
 
Man I've been looking for a deal on one of these and seems everyone wants way to much with the cafe craze going on.

The old bikes are getting expensive. If I see a good deal I'll pass it on to you.

The DD bike now has a 4-1 header and straight pipe. It's pretty damn loud and will blow sweet fire balls.
 
Well...Time is ticking

I got the two broken exhaust studs out today!
I primed the frame for paint and I'll be working on the wirring tonight.
Ive got more parts on order and my carbs should be here any day....they shouldve been here a month and a half ago....
I almost picked up a set of apes when I was at the company today...maybe I'll go back tuesday and get them before I have my cables made.
My phone fell out of my pocket thursday when I was riding so I couldn't take any pics of the progress.
Should have updated pics on monday or tuesday.
