Cheap Truck Challenge???

X2. And the fire suit you can keep for later use even after the jeep is Gone ;-)

Note, roll cages/safety equipment do NOT count against the "value" figure, good call on their part to keep from discouraging these.

No they don't count against the "value" but they count against my wallet. Cage is big $$ for a Jeep I plan to haul off for scrap after this one race. This is a Cheap Truck Challenge, a once and done event for most vehicles that enter I'm sure.

I do plan on a helmet for sure, probably a neck roll as well. I'm willing to "risk" running without a fire suit.

I wil say this.
Fire is my #1 fear inside a off road vehicle.
Factory seat belts dont release real good upside down or off camber, if youve never tried ask anyone who has. I hope this is tons of fun for everyone, but Ive buried 7 guys this CALENDAR YEAR I consider friends...Im tired of it. Then again Im old and slowing down

I dont see how you can have the money to build the jeep the gas to haul it up there and your food and such and not have a the little money it will cost to put just a roll bar over your head. But man its your truck im not judging just my opinion.

OK, This is speaking just as me, John, Not for the RCPFA BOD. I think some of you are taking this event too seriously. This is NOT an ECORS Race, it's Grass Roots Motorsports. The idea is to keep the cost of entry low, and the safety risks low through good course design. Because of that the rewards are going to be low, (Think T-Shirts or plaques/small trophys) The entrants expected are people who might not have ever been in a competitive event before, and might not compete in another until the next CCTC, So a firesuit is not something they're going to use a lot.

If you come out with the intention of beating your junk as hard as you can to get a T-Shirt, and you break it in the first 200 feet, do you know what that makes you? one of the losers!

If it looks like your rig is gonna catch fire and burn to the ground when you tap a tree, you probably won't even be allowed on the course, do you know what that makes you? one of the losers!

If it looks like you are driving so recklessly on the course you are a danger to yourself or others, you will probably get taken off the course and disqualified, do you know what that makes you? one of the losers!

If you accept the event for what it's meant to be, an off road version of the 24 Hours of Lemons (Read about that here; http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/ ) You'll come away with the idea of just coming out for the fun, and maybe to win some bragging rights (But count on that being the most valuable prize you can get!)

To get the maximum value out of the event, you should also be trying to keep your vehicle alive as long as you can. I personally won't care about my bodywork at all, but I will be trying to protect my drive line to try and get thru the whole thing, so I don't have to have the the dreaded DNF loser tag.

thanks Zuke i was hoping somebody would clarify the intentions of this event!!

I personally take pride in my work and would'nt throw a rollcage in a truck that I plan to scrap either, yes safety is a concern but if I am that concerned about the course I will leave my junk on the trailer and spectate, I'm out nothing b/c it was worth the 60bucks to camp an hang out, just my .02 cents!!

Don't forget that the fees also cover open wheeling, so if you don't think the course is safe, or your junk is up to it, You can still jump in with the regular wheeling folks, and have some fun, AND, if your junk survives the challenge, you can still wheel it the rest of the weekend too!

That's my plan.

If I finish the event and no one buys the rig: I keep an extra rig to mess around in on open wheeling days, along with the two guys on my "team".

If someone buys it after the event, I get my money back and I'm out little to nothing.

If it breaks, I'll part it out and be done with it, or I'll fix it and wheel it at the next one!

.02: I'd run without a cage. Fire suit and helmet for sure, but no cage.

just an update 33s fit!!!!! well kinda haha

^^ just don't plan on turning or needing any wheel travel lol.
nah it don't even rub at all...... unless you turn, or go forward or backward or hit the brakes LOL!!!!!!!
got some F150 fronts gon do a F to B on it the internet says it works so it has too haha!

Ron-thanks for your input on this. I did acknowledge the likelihood of breakage in my post. I don't think a 60% attrition rate is out of the question but as you found, there's no way to know until you try.

Although we're not intending CCTC to be ECORS for beaters there are some areas worth comparing. I'd love to discuss some of the safety aspects in particular. Our safety requirements seem very similar to your A Class rules. I sent you a PM on here regarding this.

Thanks again, and thanks for your efforts with ECORS.

Jay

60% will never happen regardless of the type of racing you do. We've had EASY Class A courses and every time, the driver over-drives and breaks because they can push it further. 60% just never happens. 3 years of racing experiencs shows that.

The only rules similar to Class A are 1. fire extinguisher mounted 2. seat belts or harnesses 3. full metal doors 4. roll cage if you have a soft top Thats it... I'd say those 4 rules are light years behind our Class A. don't get me wrong, this is not a negative comment, but more of a clarification for everyone that may be used to running ECORS or is familiar with our racing.

If you want some assistance with rules and safety, just ask. I'd hate to see someone get injured because of lack of knowledge as to what is the right and wrong way.

Many people don't know what to expect, especially new racers (per your post you seem to target or at least acknowledge a significant number of new racers). Because of their ignorance, you have to lead them in the right direction and set standards from the beginning and do so in a way that promotes development to stricter/safer regulations in the future.

Year 1, ECORS didn't have fire suits but its now standard for all Jeep/truck/buggy classes, no question. Helmets were part of it from day 1 as was fire extinguishers, etc. Event 1 had a rule book, a whopping 4 pages long, IIRC. Year 3, we are now at 12 pages and next year you can bet a few more pages will be added.

Work hard, be safe, and be proactive because when (not if, but when) something happens, we all hope everyone turns out OK and can race and ride another day. PS, be sure to have PLENTY of insurance!!!

OK, Some answers to some of the questions here are now clarified in the CCTC FAQ, Found Here;

http://rcpfa.com/showthread.php?2994-The-CCTC-FAQ

We layed out the course last weekend, And RatLabGuy, I think your truck actually would do OK on it, if you were still interested in it...

It may have already been said, but for clarity, I have a question. Not planning to enter or run anything, but for those that are:

-Who is allowed to offer a buyout? Anyone, or a direct competitor? You might find some car dealer (cough- Brad) up there with a Semi truck and a car trailer to buy all the rigs at the end of the day :D

Competitor, Furthermore, the competitor must have completed at least one full lap of the course (Of 4 total)... It hasn't been finalized yet either, but I'm asking the BOD to limit it to one buyout per team, not competitor...

While the threat of a buyout is real, if the vehicles entered have honest declared values, then the threat of a buyout really is minimal, and the loss of the rig in the event of a buyout is really just the labor put into it, no one should be suffering a financial loss if they keep it honest.

Here is how our XJ currently sits. Wonder if anybody is gonna want to buy it after the race? We're taking an extra XJ with us to wheel the rest of the weekend, just in case this one catches another competitors eye at the buyout.

- firewall between gas tank & driver
- tune-up
- plug sunroof hole
- body mods
plus lots more
