Cheap Truck Challenge???

Had a blast. I have some videos and pics to go through when we get back. We have to fix one of the tow rigs up here in the am so we can get it home

was a great time!!! now i gotta get my usual rig up there for some og the great crawling they offer!!! great people and great event!!
A big thanks to Jay for showing us around after the race!!!

How many rigs competed?

10 rigs entered, probly 30 or so spectators, top three fastest laps were within 3 seconds, the top being 3:19 but the track clogged up pretty quick but there were a few good spots to pass, i had the best raw time in the first heat and had made a really bad decision on a pass and cracked my radiator so with the 90 second frugalitu bonous i had my co-driver and i made the decision to just stand pat on our time due to the leak and the reversal of the starting line up put us in the back of the pack , the guys stepped it up in the second heat and put us in third overall but there was several trail plugs so we felt we made a decent choice heres a pic of #37 after the first heat haha it looked pretty bad but we put the tire back on and drove it on the trailer

Did anyone buy anyone's beater?

No, none of the rigs were bought after the race. There were only a few that made it back to the trailers without being towed out and I think our rig was the only one that wheeled the rest of Saturday and we wheeled it today also.

This is posted on the CCTC section of the RCPFA forum already (http://rcpfa.com/forumdisplay.php?65-RCFPA-Cheap-Truck-Challenge-(CCTC), but I wanted to get this posted here because the NC guys represented!

After a pressure free look-see at the timing sheets, here are the official 2012 CCTC Results and some other statistics.

Rankings, Frugality Point Adjusted Times:

First Place- Team Hoonigan, Car #199, Black XJ LTD, 5m:17s
Second Place- Bottoms Up, Car #37, Black ZJ 5.2L, 6m:52s
Third Place- Team UglyGP, Car #44, White Spec XJ, 7m:42s
Fourth Place- GTGS, Car #8, Metallic Blue XJ, 8m:11s
Fifth Place- Aftermarket 4x4, Car #111, Chevy Tracker, 9m:37s
Sixth Place- Major X, Car #17, Dark Blue/Black? XJ, 9m:50s
Seventh Place- C&P Offroad, Car #11, Dodge Ram, 11m:30s
Eighth Place- Tim & Joe, Car #666, Red XJ with stack, 14m:16s
Ninth Place- ODBA, Car #13, Scout II 4banger, DNF (one lap complete)
Tenth Place- Hayden-Wilson, Car #1, GMC Jimmay, DNF

Raw Heat Times without Frugality Bonus Adjustment:

First- Hoonigan, 6m:47s
Second- UglyGP, 7m:42s
Third- Bottoms Up, 8m:22s
Fourth- GTGS, 8m:56s
Fifth- Aftermarket 4x4, 9m:37s
Sixth- Major X, 11m:20s
Seventh- C&P Offroad, 12m:15s
Eighth- Tim and Joe, 14m:16s

Looking at lap times, Team Hoonigan was again the leader, laying down a rock blistering 3m:19s on the first lap of the second heat. That was from the middle of the pack, so traffic had to of been an issue! Cliff and Mikey (Bottoms Up) in the V-8 powered ZJ turned out a 3m:25s time on their first lap.

Teams with sub 4 minute laps:

Hoonigan: 3m:19s, 3m:28s, 3m:58s
Bottoms Up: 3m:25s
Team UglyGP: 3m:39s
Aftermarket 4X4: 3m:52s
GTGS: 3m:54s
80% of the vehicles entered completed at least one heat. 40% of the trucks fielded were valued at $750 or less (including the top two finishers. No one took advantage of the dreaded buy out clause.

Hard luck "award" goes to Team Hayden-Wilson who wiped out their front end on a (sizeable) boulder within sight of the start line. They had a go at the second heat in 2wd, but unfortunately were not able to complete the course. Their Jimmy has the dubious honor of being the one truck actually sold after the event, although not in the buyout phase by a competitor.

Things learned:

-Power steering's good (Team ODBA)
-Radiator protection is good (Hoonigan, Bottoms Up, UglyGP, others???)
-Clear your GoPro card before the start (UglyGP)
-Watch out for the big-#ss rock on the left (Hayden-Wilson)
-Getting stuck in the staging area after you've shredded the front diff sucks(Aftermarket 4x4)
-Don't nerf someone going up one side of a gully when you're coming down the opposite side (UglyGP)
-Great Stuff puts off noxious fumes when it gets good and hot (Tim/Joe)
-"Rear steer" didn't come in handy (Major X)
-That Dodge Ram looked HUGE on course (various)

This was a great time and we hope to do it again--Thanks to all for participating!

Post up those pics and vids for all to see!
