got a hold of a cherokee finally so i can start my beater build.

its an 86 cherokee pioneer. came with a 2.8 v6, A904, np231, hp30 and d35, but all that is coming out to make room for new stuff.

plans are a 350, th350, np205, chevy d60 front, 14bolt rear, 42" tsls, full exo, RE long arms, 8" rock krawler coils, 6" rock krawler leafs and 2" shackles.

so far all i have done is trimmed the piss out of the front fenders and back halfed the rear

may change the ride hight after i figure out exactly how much will be enough to run the 42's with out being too big

the front fender trimming is pretty close to a hack job but then again it is a beater :flipoff2:

Cool man! I like how you are hacking it up right from the get go! :D

Now, don't you go teaching him your ways Ricky!! LOL

Might want to think about stiffening that unibody

looks real good... keepin that 350 & AT cool will be fun...

deff wanna strengthen the unibody too... tons and 42s will be hard on it....

also may wanna consider a HP60 and DSD xfer case, unless u dont mind redoin the tunnel and floor to accomodate the np205

thats a good point about the tunnel. i am going to strengthen the unibody. they was something i debated about, whether to go with a hp 44 or 60 and i decided on the 60 since i want to run 42's so i know that i am gonna need to reinforce it. going to work on it some more this after noon and will take some more pics. and no i am not gonna sell this one ricky, since this is my first real project since my tj.

looks like fun, really interested to see it come along! subscribing to thread....NOW:popcorn:

not to rain on your parade but I will be VERY surprised if this project gets completed as intended. Building a one-ton XJ that is not a total piece of shit is not easy by any means. Its going to take alot of engineering, fabricating, testing, and the most important factor: MONEY! Not that I don't have faith in you but... well... I guess I don't have faith in you. :flipoff2:

Have fun either way.

x6000,000 billion kazillon. have the wallet ready for this one. but i like your mind set.

shoot, puttin anything one one tons requires your wallet to be hefty, puttin it in a cherokee aint gonna be any more expensive/hard. So the unibody sucks, duh we all know that just weld some metal to it and go, $20 bucks says after I'm done with it it won't fall apart and won't cost any more than any other vehicle that gets a set of 1 tons and cage swapped into it will.

Aight now begin your tirade of how wrong I am

stupid jeep owners, when will they learn and just get a fullsize chevy :flipoff2:

 , good luck with that...will be looking forward to it chris...get it done quick:driver:

well good thing i am at ncsu for engineering :fuck-you:

hey ricky i just thought of something. you wanna go ahead and bring you bender and welder down so that we can build a cage :flipoff2:

well i was gonna take some more pics tonight but got home and didnt have my camera... and it is kinda still not working for some reason

I am just trying to save you some hassle. If you want a one-ton crawler there are MUCH better platforms on which to begin. It's been done several times, but if I had it to do again, I would start off with something more solid, like an FJ, 4-runner, etc.

BTW, who is building this thing, you or highrollinTJ?

i am building it but i am sure that ricky will end up helping me with some stuff.

using a platform with a frame would be awesome but i already dropped a lot of money into the tj and didnt go the 1 ton route on it when i had the chance and i dont want anything full size and it is hard to come buy fj's for cheap and i am not too big of a 4runner fan and since i always wanted to build a cherokee i figured that it would be good enough and with some work and reinforcement it will be strong enough for 1 tons

well hell boy, stop talking and get building!!! u got ANY of those parts yet???

stupid jeep owners, when will they learn and just get a Toyota :flipoff2:
There, now it's correct.:flipoff2:

i thought welding to the uni was a bad idea?

haha only if it is your dd :flipoff2:

which in this case its a beater so it doesnt really matter, even though i know i will end up putting liability on it so that i can drive it around campus and make ricky's little z-slow jeep look small... he'll just be louder than me :wheel:
