define "unsaveable" ??

Aight . . .

The floorboards are completly rusted to the point where I feel like i'm gonna fall through everytime I stand on it

The trannny tunnel had holes all in it and it literally peeled away when i tried to pry it up a little to remove the tranny/tcase

The rust is also all in the firewall

The rocker panels are all F****d up as well

The rear floor is not as bad as the front but isnt really structurally sound

The body mounts are aight right at the mount point but as soon as you move away a few inches they are all falling apart

So yea, its unsaveable, but I think I have the problem solved already ;)

Your already making it a mud buggy right? I'd just put some cover on the engine minimal on you and get it moving. Could tube it out with that welder and make it alot lighter. Or just buy some sheet metal to fix the floor. It's going to be in the mud so rust is inevitable.

Well yea its focus will be mud, but I still want a normal body. Plus it really is beyond the point of putting new sheetmetal in, the whole like under carrage that the floorboards rest on is eatin away by rust so even If i put new sheetmetal in it would have no support. I'll probably just end up getting another tub.

Figured i'd post the pics of the stuff I already have that's goin on the Cj

Again?

Yea, I'm officialy excited, I now have everything to start putting stuff together on the cj. Yes there will be alot of small stuff, etc, etc, but at least I have all the main peices. Picked up this 95 YJ tub this weekend, gonna do a Yj/CJ hybrid thing, use the YJ tub, Cj hood, grill and dash. Here's some crappy camera phone pics of it at the place we picked it up. The roll cage thats in it we left it with the guy cause it was all rusted but we took this other cage instead.

As far as I know your not really doing a hybrid by switching out the body. they are almost the same so it sould be easy for you. I traded my toyota for a YJ about two weeks ago. I'll end up switching the front of my YJ into a CJ soon. Sounds cool but when are we going to get pics of it finished? And what ever happened to the rock crawler. To many things cooking right.

Well putting the yj body on the Cj5 frame isn't gonna be that easy, I got to make all new body mounts, plus the yj body is a little longer than the cj5 body. Pics of it finished will come when I get the time and $$ to do it, I'm gonna try and do as much as I can over christmas break. Oh yea, the samurai is still in the works too, all thats left for it before I can start building it is a tranny. But i'm gonna try and finish the cj first.

Aight finnaly progress pics!!! Anyway finnaly got the cj over omy house, stipped anything worth saving out of the old body and finnaly got it off, holy crap it was a peice of S***. It had like three splotchy here and there layers: one really rusty, one of fiberglass, and one of rusty what looks like construction signs. I'm am glad i am getting rid of that thing. Next step is to pressure wash the frame, then fab a tranny cross member, gonna try to mod the old one to work. Also measured and I am gonna have to extend the rear of the frame about 10" to fit the yj body, that'll be step numero two.

Forgot you were working with a CJ5 I was thinking about a CJ7. Have you though about cutting the body down. Will be a whole lot easier. Unless you are just adding to the rear of the frame.

by what method do you plan on welding the extensions on?

the wheel wells are in different places b/t a CJ5 and 7/Yj, how will you account for this/?

For welding on the extensions the square tubing i have is slightly larger than the frame so i will overlap it a little and then weld her up with my hobart mig 175.

For the rear wheel wells, yea they don't line up but I havn't put in the new suspension yet and will do that after I get the body on so I can line up the rear axle with the new body wheel well.
