Callelente is absolutely gorgeous scenery! Especially in Feburary with clear leafless views and snowy land masses. Amazing!, I felt like a was time traveling to my backpacking days even if most traveling was from my cozy XJ seat.

My favorites;
--Jeff's face the first time he jumped ebony 3 feet off the ground. (pic of 2nd time he did this in link)
--Steve taking down 5 or more 4 foot snowdrifts for us (pics in link)
--Craig digging elbow-deep in freezing water for a dropped lugnut (pic in-link)
--Trying to figure out what the heck the motel owner was talking about everytime he spoke to someone.

My least favorites:
--Greg breaking his new cromoly shaft on the first day.
--My jeep sliping backwards on ice down a mountain for @70 feet on @45 degree incline (got going fast!) and managed to stop it suddenly just feet before we went off the cliff --or into trees-- (wheels full turned, axle lockers on) So now I've busted up my front locker inner airline on that maneuver but we're still standing, what a rush!! (Jason ran that adventure-ride too).

Did you guys ride Saturday or Friday? I was out there on welder Saturday and saw one guy in a broken isuzu or something like that. It was awsome! LOL! We busted on the second ledge and was unable to fix it so we came on out about 3-4 pm.

We rode both Fri & Sat.
On Friday we were split into two groups becuase of different arrival times. The ealy group ran several of the red and yellow trails up to Skyline where we had a blast cutting the trail through fresh snow until we were stopped by drifts above the bumpers. The late group headed up Welder until one of our guys snapped a front axle shaft on "Easy Out" and spent the rest of the fading daylight fixing that and getting off the trail.
On Saturday we all ran up the Orange trail towards Skyline from the opposite side that we got denied from on Friday. A few of us played in Armor All along the way. The drifts at the top of Skyline were high and deep which made for slow going but we eventually were able to punch through to the spot we stopped at Friday. If anybody knows the trail system then you know Skyline is an easy scenic trail but with the snow and several slick hill climbs it took us about the whole day!!

I was looking for you guys Saturday but the broke DS ended my day early. We were going to run welder then head over to armor all. I dont think I have been to skyline yet. I have done armor all and welder and some spiders off welder. I am really enjoying going up there. How was the hotel? The americourt was nice. I got in late Friday and the girl check me in as ariving Saturday. So I only had one nits stay to pay!

I don't think the word "nice" can be used to describe the Mtn Empire Motel !!! It has a nice amount of parkiing for tow rigs and trailers and is cheap but I guess you get what you pay for. We might just have to look into the Americourt next time especially when a few significant others are tagging along.

Well the americourt is not that "nice" but the people there are and they usually speak southern. LOL! Rate was $55 for me every time I've been. What is the rate on the Empire? I checked out the camping facilities and was worried I needed a tetanus shot from just going in there! LOL! This is only my second time to CAllantee, but it by far my favorite somewhat close place to wheel.

Try that place in the summer after there's been a full crowd out on the trail.........:poop:
The Empire room ran us $62 with tax so I guess it wasn't any cheaper. I thought the rates on the Americourt site said they were in the $80 range but my memory is terrible and I'm to lazy to look them up. In any event we'll probably try that place next time as I doubt it can be any worse then the Empire.
Thanks

Their regular rate is $65 or $69 but they give a discount for AAA and other orgs. You tel/ them you have 10 or more staying there and I bet you could get it lower then the $55 that I paid. It's not like they were packed or anything. :rolleyes:
