I'm thinkin about joining soon. I'm going down to the recruiter in a few minutes to get some info, but if anyone has any input, it'd be greatly appreciated.

i was thinking about it too the other day, but their website lacks alot of information from what I could find.

I have an uncle who retired from the USCG and have several friends enlisted now. BTW I think were going to do some wrenching next weekend

1BIGAZZBURBN's oldest son has been in for a little while he finished the acadamy in Cali last month and just transfered to
Va he says he loves it. he also as a few nephews that has been in for a long time and they say they love it aswell

Yo,
Go man..do it. With the killing off of the middle class by the drooling fools in WDC, unless you got/get a medical related 4 yr degree, do the Guard. Make a career out of it and you'll never regret it.
I tried to enlist in CG during Viet Nam conflict but they were full. So, chose Navy. Went aviation and served as both electronics tech and combat rescue swimmer. Raised a lot of Hell and had great times in southern California. You sure as Hell won't see Iraq in the CG!
Think about duty in Hawaii, Florida, California, etc. Many not get a great assignment first time around but come re-enlistment, that is your barganing chip. If you get close to a college, go and let Sam pay for it. You may graduate early enough to be an officer. I know retired military and they have no regrets. Don't go Marines unless you like having no life. I went to military school and served with them but I don't think you would like that lifestyle. Air Force is another good choice. Army aviation is good. If you go Navy, go aviation. Ships suck.

As a marine in aviation I will tell you if your in Naval aviation you will spend alot of time on a ship (Aircraft Carrier) As well as Marine Aviation since you go on the ships with the navy unless you fly or work on C-130's... And just cause your a marine doesnt mean you wont have a life, How much you spend at work depends on your job not the service, and in any aviation job in the military your going to usually work ALOT to support the flight schedule.... Aviation guys work more hours than the ground side, but dont have to go to the field. Every job has its advantages/advantages... Coast Guard I dont think goes over sea's Im not sure... I would visit all the recruiters, and see what ever one has to offer.... And dont do anything just for that "Big Signing Bonus" And remeber all services get paid the same Buy Rank, I just had a buddy say he was going to join the airforce because the recruiter said they got paid more than every one else.... BS!

Whatever:shaking: :shaking: I think that there are enough Marines, both active and former, that frequent this board that would easily disagree with you. After serving over 20 years, and continuing to serve, I can honestly say that I have a life.

But thanks for playing:lol:

Well my Brother and My Dad were both in the Coast Guard.. they both loved it and have no regrets at all.

I now have a freind that is in the guard in FL and he flies choppers and gets to chase drug runners all day and he loves it..

everyone I have ever know that went into the guard has loved it with no exceptions..I am sorry to say that I can not say the same about other areas of the military..

I'm with Infantry YJ on this one. I served in the 82nd ABN and had a great time. I enjoyed my service and believe it or not I had a guy in my squad that got out of the CG and joined the Army. HOOAH!!!

I'm in the Marines and have been for the past 8 years and will be in till I hit atleast 20 years. I have had had a great time and have had a great life, seen lots of cool shit. So why would someone say that Marine's have no life? It really doesn't matter which branch someone joins they're going to go somewhere new most of the time enjoy their time in. To the person that said the CG doesn't go to Iraq, you're wrong cause there is CG units in Iraq. Just as there was CG units in Vam. They do search and rescue.

my best friend is in the coast guard in coco beach. he will be in town this weekend. all he does is sit on a beach and drink beer every night.

wish i would have signed up lol:beer:

I almost ran a Coast Guard guy over this morning when he pulled out in front of me in his little Civic. SAS'd 4Runners don't stop to good or atleast mine doesn't.

Just for a different point of view.

A good friend of mine was in the CG and absolutely hated it. Of course he was stationed on the GL and nearly froze....

I guess it all comes down to yoru outlook on the situation and where you get stationed...

And now for something different...

...and now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

That video was great. I am in the Marines and have been for 16 years. I work 7:30 to 4:30 unless something big is going on. This week I work til 6. I haven't been to Iraq yet either and I have volunteered for the last 5 deployments. I enjoy my 4-5 day holiday weekends and my 30 days vacation a years. I have covered all the spectrums of the corps from the ground side to the aviation. I guess it depends on what you do while your in and who your with as with any branch. It's all about what you want out of it and what you make it.
