Craigslits robberies

"I tell people, invite them to meet you at the police station. We're open 24 hours. If they won't do that, then don't bother with them," said Bogota police Sgt. Robert Piterski, who is investigating the robbery of Michael’s MacBook.

Wow. Really? This is what we've come to?
Look I *think* most of you know I'm a pretty trustworthy and trusting guy, but honestly unless the transaction involved a massive wad of cash, if somebody asked me to meet them at the local police station I'd probably bail, that'd just be too weird.

Thats good for small stuff... But whats the best way to show someone a set of tires? Load em up, drag em to the local police station to meet a buyer?

Or just say. I will be packing, don't get no ideas...

Yeah thats great in MD where there is no allowance for CCW (legally). So they know as soon as you show if you're bluffing.

:flipoff2: this state that only protects criminals...

For sales I meet them with the item in my driveway. They don't get any visibility into my home or backyard that they couldn't get just driving by the house. I also don't give out my work schedule. If they ask when I'm available I ask when they want to come. If they want to come while I'm working I'll usually tell them that I'll be working from home, but my day is booked with conference calls and I don't know when I'll be available...Then politely ask if they can come after 6:00 or something.

I've had people who wanted to meet me before and while I understand them wanting to secure their safety I told most of them it's not worth my time. It usually truly isn't...I'm not trying to leave my house to make $20 when you can just drive here instead. I did meet one lady in the Wachovia parking lot down the road, but she was an older woman and it was something I needed (paying deposit for a condo rental).

I almost always have the item outside in driveway when meeting someone so they do not see in my house or in backyard since I have a gate

I usually do about the same,I have them come to my house and I bring whatever they are looking at out into the driveway.I have lived in Durham basically my whole life and I get people dropping by my house all the time,I guess I have always felt safe here.Maybe in the future I will position my wife up on the roof with a Rifle prior to having anyone from Craigslist over.

Same here...you want my junk, you come and get it (unless prior arrangements have been made that entice me to do otherwise). And when I want something, I go look at it. I've found that a 6 d-cell maglite is an effective weapon at times (carried so I can get a good look at something), as is a crow bar (used for parts picking).

My wife with me in a set of steel sights makes me more nervous than the guys I'm dealing with:lol:. I can say I've meet alot of people in the last couple of years and have never felt like it wasn't a straight up situation, But with my bad luck I'm always waiting for the worst and happy when it all goes well. I would have to pass on meeting a the local police dept. With the junk I roll-in and sell:flipoff2:

"The trick is to get as much information from the other party as you can without giving up much on yourself," he said. He recommends getting multiple e-mail addresses, Twitter accounts, Facebook pages and phone numbers. Then, spend some time on Google backgrounding the person. Take the first part of an e-mail address -- such as the "bob1234" part of bob1234@gmail.com -- and Google that, which will often unearth alternate e-mail addresses.

Umm, yea. If you start asking me all that crap, you can deal with somebody else.

Off of craigslist I never give out much info, and I never let the people come to my home. I have given more information out to a random NC4x4er than I would anyone on craigslist.

I never meet anyone off craiglist alone, and one of us is always carrying unless we are somewhere we feel comfortable.

Was selling a car last year and had a guy want to meet me at my house, my deal was always meet at a bank up the road, lots of cameras, lots of people, and usually a cop in the parking lot. Just feel that it is the best method. We have done some deals at my buddies shop in the past though, but they have security camera's and a little something extra.

I would just be hoping she didn't hit me and the lead skidding off the driveway would run the Criminal off. That be said,I Agree I have never had a bad dealing on Craigslist and I have had a lot of them.

Honestly thought about that myself... Came to conclusion if they are there for the wrong reason then they are gonna find out what im packing without knowing... shotty hurts!!

I used to always let buyers come to the house and even into the garage to pick up parts. Not anymore. I either have it in the driveway or just meet them up the road somewhere.

Reagan said it best, "Trust but Verify..."

I have met many people for transactions, both at home, on the road, and at their houses. Never have felt threatened, never have been "unprepared" to feel threatened.

Sold a 2010 mustang to a chick from Kentucky for $23, 500.00 She showed up with a guy 30 yrs older than her to get the car. He pulled out a paper bag (wrinkled KFC bag!) with cash $20, $50 and $100 bills, had $ all across the seat counting. On the way home my son replied "daddy got your heat?" we just smiled. I thought the KFC bag was ironic!

im glad you guys started this thread!! i have had a couple of people meet me at my house because it was more convenient for the buyer. With all the scammers now (i get 1-2 "click here" replies a day) shows there are a lot assholes in the world and people can not be trusted. i will never meet anyone at my house anymore.
