Wow, you have done something there! I wouldn't have thought you had thrashed on it hard enough to brake one.
Just DDing my truck the computer usually says 1 mpg higher than hand calculated. But this time it was only about .3 mpg higher and hand calculated was right at 12. That was the first time really towing in the mountains and I'm happy with 12. I was taking easy until I saw Jason, Chris and Troy had caught up to me, then I had to get back in the left lane. I couldn't let them pass me, this is NASCAR country.
I wonder if it happened at the start of 15. You weren't beating on it hard but you had that one hard hit.
Probably from 3-4 years of abuse or more if that's the same shafts that were in it when you bought it. Throw some chromos in it lol
Those are the same stock shafts that have always been in that axle. I personally have been beating on them for 4-5 years.
Chromos will be on order in the morning...
You can't hide money
I have driven my XJ twice. Both times not bad. Just set the cruise control to 65 and cruise. The last time on the way home I drove back with a fubar stock trac bar and still the drive wasn't awful. Just couldn't hit bridge gaps with speed or death wobble mode engaged
I just have a tendency to drive like I'm in a 1 ton rig. I've gotten much better the last few years though, and definitely think it would be different if I knew I had to drive it home.
I tend to loose the give a shit factor when Jason tells me we can tow my truck back if I tear something up and I drive his Jeep back. Hopefully a tow rig and trailer are in my near future.

I got around to "hand" figuring the mileage; on my first tank that took me from my Home Station, to near Oak Ridge, I'm showing 12.9. I didn't have the on-board computer set then. On the second tank, I refueled in Linconton, only holding 16 gallons, which figured out at 14mpg. My return trip was smoother & more down hill, thus the increase. Not too much difference from what the trucks computer was averaging. I'm Sure not complaining, even if it is burning Premium! About 13K gross, traveling 60-70mph average, powered by 6.2 @ 420HP
Not to shabby. I wouldn't complain about that. I've got the 5.3 with the active fuel management, wish I would have gotten the 6.2 without AFM.
Tough to see but that is new chromloly axles. It's ready to ride now.
