I was wondering if anyone posting here has done (or gotten) a custom paint job on their rig. Spray paint to professional. I will spend as much time as I can looking through the threads but would appreciate if any photos could be left here. I'm working out ideas for my own paint job and would like to see what other people around here have done. Thanks!

i painted a 88 toyota metallic blue and it looked awesome, sold it 2 months later.

I went to this with some duplicolor spray bomb from advanced auto. I primed it with some good primer though!

This is what it looked like b4!

Chromerunner it's going on an '00 Wrangler Sport. Do you have pics Zacsquatch? I think I see some stripes, would like to check it out. It looks awesome Jason. Much better. Did you have to strip off any clear coat, and if so how? Bruiser that's gorgeous. Awesome job. Shinton thanks so much, I actually checked out your article yesterday and sent it to a friend, but I have to go back and read it in detail. I appreciate the posts guys.
What I was kinda looking for and what I am going to do, is airbrush my Wrangler. Nothing extremely detailed considering the damage I could inflict to it and my newness to airbrushing. I was thinking of a tribal design on the hood that morphs into a skull (I love skulls I have 2 dozen in/on it already), perhaps with some of the design fading out onto the front quarter panels. Then I am going to make up a stencil for the club I am in and put it on the doors which I could also put on other club member's rides.
Another idea I had would be to airbrush the whole thing making it look like it's several pieces of sheet metal bolted together. What do you think?

This is my TJ, last time we went to URE first week of May. I've got a lot of work to do to it I know, but the major stuff has gotta wait until it's paid off and I get a commuter car.

K-mart acrylic latex, art brushes, a 3-year old and wife.

BTW it's harder than you'd think to clean paint off of brick.

That sounds like a lot of work for a vehicle that WILL get dented and scratched. (Especially after you get a commuter car). Mine is spray painted plasticote #1545 white from wal-mart. (Hence the screen name.) Didn't strip off any paint, sand or for that matter wash the truck before I did it. The old paint was faded/fuzzy red so I just sprayed it. Should have gotted one of those trigger spray attachments for rattlecans before though. Had sore finger tips for two weeks afterwards! But now, when I scatch it or worse I just break out the can'o'touch up to keep it from rusting any worse.

Heres a buddy of mines truck after we rebuilt it from a rollover. We spray bombed it with some good ole G.I. flat rattlecans.

Nice pics guys, thanks so much for sharing. I understand the point about it getting scratched and dented and such, but I really don't mind about that. Touch up will be easy for me since I am doing the airbrushing. I can touch up almost as easy with my airbrush than I could with a spray can. Not to mention I think it would be best to start out on my own vehicle rather than someone else's first. Just need more practice first, thanks especially to anyone that posted 'in progress' pics.

Oh and Raleighjeepguy sometimes I might mess up and think you are my buddy Raleighjeep, sorry in advance for being slack haha

Here's a couple before,

During, (in the second photo you'll see I had to replace the rear fenders, and the floor plates beneath the seats, and that's the short (very short) list.

and after.

From start to finish it took six months of wire wheeling, cutting, fabbing, welding, and three weeks (mostly evenings to paint). Base coat is the three step - Rust Seal by KBS coatings, and top coats are Durabak - rough (Camo design by my wife). Interior color is the base green Durabak - rough.
Hope to see you on the trails....Later T.J.
