Deserter Gt project...bonus 2 for one!

After the meet and greet everyone asked I post up about this. My dad and I started rebuilding his 71 model dune buggy, a Deserter Gt. These are on a 84” vw chassis with aircooled powerplants. We tore his down when I was 11 and that was 31 years ago. We have started it back and I have also purchase the same buugy, his being a hard top, mine no top. Here are a few pics I found on the interweb so you get the idea of what we are working with. We have been working for about a month really trying to get a game plan rather than real work yet as he has 2 chassis and 3 motors and 3 front ends he has collected over the years to build his back to his dream ride.....

I swear I have seen one like yours around Camden. Now that I see it with no top on a computer I recognize what it is. I always loved the pictures growing up of them in the sand dunes.

There where 412ish(number has been up for debate with proto tyes) series 2 Deserters made, of those 180ish where GS models that are mid eng that run a covair motor. The Bounty hunter by manx looks ALOT like these but on a shorter chassis and there road manners are not as good.

Ok maybe some other VW based sand buggy. I'll pay closer attention next time I see it running around.
