I've thought long and hard on this, read, thought some more, studied more stuff, and here's what I've deduced:
By no means my own idea but makes sense.
Sasquatch, Bigfoot, lizard man, Marsh man (seen in Charleston), etc are physical commando style vessels transformed into by what people have named "shape shifters". A shape shifter can either be an alien being or something from our afterlife. Theres a thin line between those two anyways. When something visits earth and does not have the physical capability to navigate the land but has the capability to change its form into something that can, it does. Why wouldn't it? Whatever the task may be, it's going to take on a form suitable for the task. You'll notice a similarity in mythical creatures, and what they all share in common is they are very good at traversing great spans of land, being able to hide out, avoid capture and survive any condition it happens to be in. When a being is able to alter it's form at the blink of an eye, it makes it practically impossible to capture or kill one.
