I've had my tow rig (01 Ram CTD) since the fall of 2006. For several years, my DD duties were split between it and a Tahoe that I also owned. Once my son was born, the Tahoe was immediately rendered useless because it was a two door, so I sold it. I'm a Mr. Mom, so after a few months of DD'ing my Ram with my son, I decided that I really needed a minivan for the sliding rear doors. Almost 6.5 years later now, I don't really need the minivan anymore. My van has 130k miles on it, and my Ram has 230k miles on it. I'm considering selling both of them in about 1-2 years and possibly just buying a newer truck as a DD. I might go with a gas pickup instead of diesel since I don't tow that often. My daily commute is about 32 miles round trip with the school drop off and pick up. For the past few years or more, my Ram has only been driven about once every 2-4 weeks.

Do you DD your tow rig? If not, what do you DD?

I DD my 06 Ram CTD DRW 34 miles a day and I don't mind driving it but the 13 mpg brings the suck. I'm planning to pick up a cheap clean XJ to DD eventually so I can park the truck and use it solely for truck shit.

I occasionally drive it to work, but mostly running errands and such on the weekends. My DD is a Mazda P5. It was a hand-me-down from the wife, but i spend half in fuel compared to what i would with my Dodge or even my previous tahoe.

I would prefer to have another small pickup, but none of them get great mileage either.

I DD mine, 2012 F250 CCSB diesel. There are times where its mildly annoying, mainly just parking lots at crowded lunch places. The power and space are great. I put an H&S Minimaxx on it right after I got it, and averaged 15.3mpg for 7 tanks (DPF/Cat still in place). Since then, I put it back to stock and have averaged 17.3mpg hand calc'd over the 4 tanks since then. We regularly carry 4 adults and 1 car seat (3 year old in rear center), and the interior cab space in the Ford crewcab is comfortable for everyone. We take my truck almost everywhere, and leave the wife's 4runner sitting at the house. I also have the BMW diesel for DD-econo duties, but I prefer driving the truck, so the car is for sale. Mostly because I like the idea of not getting arrested for excessive speed and reckless driving and the car is not as versatile. The truck has a Bak Revolver X2 cover and power tailgate lock, so gear and baggage in the bed stays dry and secure.

I DD a 2014 Ram 2500 Laramie CCSB. It has the 6.4 hemi. I don't tow/haul often enough to need a diesel. I'm with @jeepinmatt when it comes to comfort and space. We take my truck everywhere.

My 15 Ram 2500 Cummins rests in the garage 95% of its life. My work commute is 80 miles round trip. I rock a 95 Civic hatchback that my grandmother bought new. I’ve dabbled in a few fast and furious upgrades to increase mpg’s and make it look a little more sporty. Tinted the windows to hide my shame.

Yes, but it's a crew cab 1/2 ton gasser. I had an extended cab Duramax and various dd cars for years. Just before 2nd child was born, I ditched the car and duramax (both with issues I was tired of dealing with) and got the Sierra.

I DD my 6.4 my office is only 5 miles from my house. I have a company truck to use if I have to go to a job site but if it’s within a half hour I just drive my truck and they pay fuel. That said when I was driving 50+ miles a day to school I was driving a pos ranger. I’m debating getting something smaller to drive around though. Matt’s right it’s a pain to drive a full size truck and park it in any bigger city, most won’t even fit in a parking garage stock height

My DD is my tow rig. Or, my tow rig is my DD? It's the 1500 crew cab in my sig line, so it's not quite as gutsy as most other tow rigs around on this forum. Suits all my needs, though.

Nope. I drive a beater Chevy Colorado. 2wd and 28+ mpg and is able to do most of the truck duties I need it to. I have little to no use for a car. Always hauling some kind of crap. The tow rig just gets used for real truck duties.

No, I drive a beater most places. I bought my Dodge brand new in December 2005 and it now has 82k miles on it. Debating selling it too, but I am afraid I wouldn't be able to replace it in the future.

Nope, drive a beater econobox car for a DD, it gets around 33mpg on my work commute. The Burban gets 10mpg so it sits 99% of the time unless it's hooked to my car trailer.

A cheap beater car can be bought for the equivalent of 1 or 2 payments on a nice, newer truck so it doesn't make sense to put the wear/tear on a nice expensive truck.

Technically my DD is my work truck & I put ~35k miles a year on it. My personal DD is the Accord in my signature, but its registration is due at the end of March so I'm thinking of selling it and bringing my F250 up from my parents to DD it or buy a newer, faster car.

Tinted the windows to hide my shame.
^This made me laugh!

I dd my 16 f250 diesel. Before that it was my 03 f250. Its 15ish miles to work and I go home for lunch so thats 60ish miles a day.

I drive the Dodge some and I drive the Jeeps some. The Dodge has been sole DD off and on for years, less so in the summer when the weather is nice, more if I have meetings in Durham, etc. It has averaged 10k per year since we've owned it. That's the most miles of any of our vehicles. The POS Explorer only does about 7k/yr.

Nope. I daily drive my badass 1997 BMW Z3 and the 07 F250 sits at home. I drive it normally 1x a week or when I go to ride dirt or take the motorcycles or truggy somewhere.

I don't love driving it to work also since the parking deck I park can be annoying with a truck.

I DD my 2016 2500 Chevy for 18 months, but after 31k miles and starting a new job with a 100 mile round trip, I will be retiring it from DD duties and picking up something cheap and more fuel efficient. Looking into accords or maybe a 3rd gen 4runner

I DD an ugly, old lady looking gold Toyota Camry. 260k miles and counting, paid for! It was not my favorite choice but a good buy at the time. I drive 2000-2300 miles each month for work. Driving a truck is not economical for me at all. I recently picked up a 2500HD gas truck. I will drive it occasionally.
Work gives me $725/month for a car, everything I have is paid for so you can imagine I like the efficient vehicles that keep more money in my pocket. If it laid down on me I would replace it with another $4-5k car and keep rolling.

I’ve been daily driving a f350 crew cab diesel for at least 7-8 years, usually 160-190 miles per day. Didn’t mind it at all but fuel costs started to add up.

Got the wife a new SUV a few weeks ago and now I drive her old Volvo XC90 daily. Holy cow what a difference! Cheap fuel. Comfort. No crazy bumps like the stiff suspension of the f350! Cheap tires. Etc.

I never really realized how cumbersome a big diesel truck is when that’s all you know. If I had known what I know now 7 years ago I’d have tons more $ in my pocket and lots less miles on my diesel truck.

Dang that’s the hook up for money for a car everywhere I talked to that offered that had a ton of requirements about age of style of car or truck

I know where you can find a nice diesel BMW that'll average over 30mpg and is stupid fast ;)

I think I am supposed to have a car only so many years old and such. It met the requirements when I started but I'm pretty sure it's out now. I just keep it clean and don't draw attention. I have to turn in my mileage showing where I've been. I could get a company truck if I wanted and they would pay for everything, but I'd still have to do mileage and would have a std cab truck that I couldn't use to tow the jeep, so I'd rather pocket the expense check.
