I tow daily so I'm always in my tow rig. But it sucks for the around town stuff. I always keep an XJ or TJ around for once I'm home .

I DD my 2500 suburban I make regular 6 hour drives no trailer for $45 driving smart with small block! When hauling my gas is gone before I pull the hell out tho! I haul with boss mans 2011 6.7 mega cab on 37/13.50/20 and avg 20 mpg with 9kish trailer... if I had it my way I'd run a 12v in a burb all the space ya ever need and obviously cooler than a minivan for family trips or hauling...

My 06 Ram Dually sits most of the time. Brakes, tires, diesel, oil changes are all more expensive on the truck vs my little 4 door car I drive. So why would I waste the money just to drive back and forth to work.

My work commute is a little over 8 miles each way. It makes my wallet hurt just thinking I burn about a gallon of gas each way driving my 2500 yukon xl (8.1L.) I typically drive my s10 or mini.

My '16 ccsb 3500 duramax sits at the house unless I take it out to eat on the weekends. Otherwise I'm in my black silverado that's my avatar pic. Which also is what I use to pull the 4wheelers when I ride because I don't want to get the new truck muddy/ dirty on the inside or some jackass doing donuts in the gravel to blast it with rocks. My work place gets the inside dirty even tho I'm not a production worker, the dust gets on you and into your vehicle and then when you get in it with nice clothes, they may not be so nice...
I've always been torn between not driving your brand new truck to save miles etc. VS. the fact that you are paying for something that just sits...

I think I've learned that new stuff is nice to have (I just really wanted the new bigger cab/ style of the GM trucks) but when you think about it, buying a new truck that you actually want to use for it's purpose isn't really smart because you don't want to use it as a truck. Even if in the example like I said above with riding 4wheelers, it's not just me that has to be responsible enough to keep it clean.

I guess my DD is my work vehicle which is a 17 explorer. The tow rig has only had about 2000 miles put on it since last June.

I DD mine. I'm only like 10 miles from work and it averages 17, so no complaints here. I don't drive enough to really warrant needing a beater.

I DD my 2015 Ram 2500. 51k on it currently and no issues at all. I bought it to drive and enjoy, so why not?
We live in a small neighborhood and really don't have anywhere to park it IF I bought a beater.
Plus my DD has to room for our dogs as they go most places I do. With all of that factored in, it's easier for me to just drive one thing right now.
If I had my druthers, I'd DD a little econobox 4 cyl that gets 35-40 mpg.

I want a truck that I'm not afraid to use as a truck, but I want the luxury and features of a newer truck, so I buy higher mileage stuff that seems like it's been well taken care of. Then if it gets a little ding or scratch, I don't really care, because it's a $15-20k truck instead of a $40-80k truck. Still works the same, still pulls the same, still looks the same.

Haven’t daily driven my tow rig in probably 10yrs. Now that I’ve gone from a compact car to a 4cyl truck for dd duties it will sit even more.....and probably still manage to get 20k plus miles on it a yr as it has been. We use it for trips about twice a month and usually a 4-5k trip out west once a yr. Daily driving a full size 4dr, LB truck isn’t my idea of fun.

My tow rig is only a 1500 but drive it 60/40. My forester is good for trips that dont evolve hauling stuff

That's what I wanted but finding a used HD gm truck in the new body style when I bought mine wasn't really a common option. Now it seems like every lot has a few used ones...

Nope, b/c I don't have a tow rig, b/c I'm the badass.... dumbass... who drives his trail/race rig to the trails and back :flipoff2:
but my DD is an '02 Protege5. Great cheap car, 30 mpg. The pickup I do have just gets used for misc weekend/hauling duty.

I’ve been daily driving a f350 crew cab diesel for at least 7-8 years, usually 160-190 miles per day. Didn’t mind it at all but fuel costs started to add up.

Got the wife a new SUV a few weeks ago and now I drive her old Volvo XC90 daily. Holy cow what a difference! Cheap fuel. Comfort. No crazy bumps like the stiff suspension of the f350! Cheap tires. Etc.

I never really realized how cumbersome a big diesel truck is when that’s all you know. If I had known what I know now 7 years ago I’d have tons more $ in my pocket and lots less miles on my diesel truck.

This was me a few years back. I always had a fullsize SUV or Truck. Once i started driving a car everyday I wont go back to DDing the diesel. but I would like to get a small pickup instead of the car.

Yea my Forester is pretty handy. I decided not to put a trailer hitch on it...or else I'd get in trouble

I dd my 91.5 regular cab ctd dually. It's fun to drive, parks in the same places that my Toyota pickup did. Averages 17.5 mpg on the highway. About 320 miles a week. My 7.3 f250 is sitting full of buggy parts in the barn because It's just too much truck for dd duty. The cummins is short, plenty of juice, full size bed and just enough cab space to not overflow the passenger seat with cargo.

I daily my 78 k10 that is also my tow rig. Mileage is around 12(odometer didn't work for a while) if I can keep my foot out of it. Work is around 25 miles away, So I go through a lot of gas; but I like driving something cool and the interior space of a full size. Also I have been rear ended in my truck and I much prefer the safety of a big old truck than a tiny car.

Not to rain on your parade but the last two fatal crashes i have seen have been old pickup trucks against newer cars and the truck drivers didn't win either time. Crumple zones are amazing features

Do not daily my tow pig.

Before I got a company car I DD'd my exploder. But I'd rotate the tow pig and the jeep in once a week (maybe) but the tow pig rarely gets driven unless I need something at lowes, or we're going on a trip. The wife prefers the cab size of the tow pig as well as the security she gets from it's size on the hiway. I've had it 7 years and put 42k miles on it. 4k of that was last year out to Moab

We have 2 drivers and 5 plated vehicles. 2011 ram3500 , 2006 and 2005 Mercedes E320 CDIs. 2006 Tahoe , 1993 YJ. The two Mercedes are the beaters, 37-42mpg on the highway and both see about 50miles minimum use during the day. The Ram we need to tow, the jeep for fun. The Tahoe is going up for sale because we never drive it. It pains me to sell the Tahoe , probably been one of the best cars I've ever owned but it sits. I personally hate DD a 3/4 ton or bigger truck, it has many reason for sucking. I sold JT a 2006 CDI a few months back as a back and forth car to the coast, he seems to dig it.

I don't know squat about BMW's.

You know how Target has a cover charge of $100 min? (yeah I need to run to target for "x" but dang I ended up NEEDING abcdefgh.....)

Well, any BMW has a cover charge of $1000 when it needs repair o_O

Wheel speed sensor? $1000
Muffler bearing? $1000

The only thing you can get away with under $1000 is just an oil change (if you're dumb enough to take it to a dealer for that) and then it's only $150
