I'm moving to Tucson, AZ for work and will be driving there from Winston the first week of July. According to Google Maps, it will be a journey of 2040 miles and 30 hours of driving time. Unfortunately, I don't have time to meander all over the US, but I am interested in seeing what I can see along the way. Right now, I'm planning on going through Nashville, stopping for the night in Memphis, skipping across Clinton's home state, through Dallas, stopping for the night in Midland TX, then through El Paso and Las Cruces before arriving in Tucson. I'll be rollin' in an overloaded Nissan Versa hatchback and hoping for 38-40 mpgs on the trip without hitting the rumble strips more than 3x. o_O

I've never been to any of these towns, so what is there to see? I guess I could maybe turn this thread into a photo journal but it would be completely devoid of 4 wheel drive anything and probably be mostly pics of me picking my nose at 80 mph.

Here is a pic of the Cadillac ranch

If you do go through Amarillo stop and eat at the Big Texan, it's right off I-40. Outstanding steaks.

Stock yard in Fort Worth and Red rock Canyon in Gallop NM.X3 on the Cad ranch but if you go thru there at night youll drive right by it.

I would stay north and go on I40 if you take the more southern route you will drive through Texas for two days and it sucks!!!!! I40 is a good way to go! I have gone coast to coast on I40 4times and the southern route 1time

Definitely stay the hell off I-10 and the west Texas route.

Plan on a night in Nashville. That town is a BLAST! One of the best nightlife scenes I've ever been to and I used to live in London, England.

I thought I had heard something on this board about Memphis being shady. My thought process was to break it up into 3-10hr day, which is how I ended up in Memphis and Midland. Caddy ranch and the Big Texan sound cool and its almost identical mileage.

Bruiser - I'll definitely be looking for places to go in Tucson once I get there. If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it. I went to the Pima Air and Space museum last trip out there. That was cool. Also rode up Mt Lemmon.
