Are there any electricians on here that are in the Winston-Salem/Triad area? I am looking to have a generator installed and I would much rather pay a NC4x4 Member before someone else.

I got Clay on equipment he needs labor.

a little morning bump

What type, output? Wire to panel with disco? Located on pad or inside structure? By liscened person only and who is providing hardware?
They are not terribly complicated depending on application. Just wandering how deep this instal was in application.
I or others could recommend from that point.
Electrician or ELECTRICIAN?

22KW generac
Wire to panel with automatic switch
on a pad outside
as far as hardware, I would have to defer to the electrician, as I have no idea what it will need.
It will be powered by natural gas and my plan is to have the generator installed, then have the gas line routed to it (I don't want the gas line to dictate where the generator has to go, I would rather place the generator in the best place and then route the gas line to it)

I thought Ron said they have to be right by the gas meter, or else they won't auto start.

You'd think with properly sized gas pipe that wouldn't be an issue. We've ran piping to several generators that weren't right next to the meter.

I'm sure gas piping is an after thought for most residential jobs. If its set next to the meter they don't have to rework the entire gas line.

22kw is a pretty typical for size for my area. I've got a 25kw sitting on site at a new home I'm working on. Here's a 150 I set earlier this year

They don't have to have a gas meter, they can be LP or NG. That 150 is LP. I set an 8kw 2 weeks ago, it was NG and one that I fired up today was LP.
ALL GENERAC

The 150kw has v-10 engine in it. It got hit by lightning and I have to swap out the control board on Friday

Gas line is sized for the load at the furthest point. (I.e. if a rooftop is 700ft from a meter you size all the piping for every appliance on the 700ft chart). Afterthought right by the meter is cheating but for residential it shouldn't matter much as long as delivery pressure isn't in w.c.

Actually you want 6'-8' of pipe between the regulator and the gen inlet. Less can induce some weird oscillations under the perfect circumstances. More is fine, so long as the pipe is sized right.

Lotso of folks screw up generator piping because it's a (relatively) extremely high volume and a low pressure. So often times inexperienced MCs will undersize the pipe.

The protector/QT 150 line uses the 6.8 v10 over spun...where as the industrial 150 uses a 9.0 v8.

I'm delivering a 6x400kw diesel mps pack to woodruff sc later this week.

BTW @BigClay did you get my email earlier?

Hence the w.c. comment.

ELECTRICIAN. And a contractor. That's not what I had pictured, guess I think to small. I should learn to think biggger than my small atmoshere of exposure. I have been around some bigger gen. sets but only back up for industrial setting. I wanna hear it puuuurrrrrrr.

almost all commercial gens will run either 7_11 or 11-14 I.w. c

Got a rooftop unit in Myrtle beach right now that needs 3,000,000 but at 11-14... Contractor swears 1.5" like is big enough because "he's been doing this since I was shitting green"

Nevermind the 85' Pipe run and the 7 90s...

And that occurs AFTER the regulator.

THIS is why you have a 2psi/5psi meter when running equipment of any size (i.e. gen/boiler/com kitchen) and not run w.c. delivery pressure

A call to Greg at PNG is all it takes for a meter changeout to high pressure. Line sizing problem solved. Even on retro.

Some people just like to argue...just because they're older. I'm finally getting a little grey in my beard. Maybe one day contractors will start listening to what I've said instead of having to do things twice, and 3 times before it's approved

Something else, I'd set it as close to your meter base and panel as possible. These new residential units are quiet. With a 22kw, I'd get a service entrance rated transfer switch also.

Funny how much truth there is to that. In my late 20's, my beard was all red/brown, I knew everything, and no one would listen. Now, in my early 30's, I'm about 25% graybeard, still know everything, and people actually believe half the crap I say.
