It's just 1 of Many things, that Bug me! Here's My take. About 10 years ago, I was driving home in my newly traded car. A CMPD [Charlotte/Mecklenburg] Officer, stopped behind me at a Red light. When we proceeded,he pulled me over. I explained how I had traded cars, & hadn't had a chance to get to DMV. I showed him the bill of sale. No Problem. I asked how he knew [ or really,I wondered why he ran My tag]
my tag didn't match the car. He said it was common practice for them to run tags, while sitting at red lights. OK, Good! So, Why year after year, I see SO Many expired tags on cars? Everybody thinks Big Brother is Spying on them, & CMPD has 2 or more, Special Police cars, running multiple cameras on them, just to catch such stuff! Figure 100 + CMPD on patrol, every day/night, + all the other enforcement guys!
How is it, that I see 4-6 tags every day [2013 was the Worst], Not just expired, but up to 8 months past Due! Even in Mooresville today, I saw a Gray Wrangler, with some "Boxer" sticker on the back, who's tag ran out Last week! Hint Hint. Looks like the Cameras are BS, & just like driving in the Rain, wipers on High Speed, & NO Lights, Are not worth an Officers time, to Stop! Damn! Now I Feel Better!:D

A lot of the tags you see expired are not really expired. When I run them they come up valid. It is the lazy owner that forgot to put the current year sticker on it that's all. I have pulled over people before for that and they pull out their registration card from their glove box and there is the sticker still on their card. It doesn't do much good in the glove box and not on the tag.

I recently drove around for close to a month without a tag on the back when my temp tag fell off and was waiting for the permanent tag to come in. Even had a cop behind me for a mile or two and he didn't pull me over. Not sure why but not complaining. A different time I was pulled over for an expired tag that was really up to date but my sticker was lost in the mail.
Luck of the draw I guess.

I would really like to see the police step up traffic enforcement (except for when they're behind me!) :D
I used to live in a small town where the cops had a strangle hold on the traffic. It sucked but the chief said that they stopped so much other BS by just making a stop for a traffic or vehicle issue that it helped a lot in the general policing of the town.

The tag on my Ram has been expired for over a year. I'm slack as shit and don't drive it much.

Rodney, the cars with camera's generally aren't looking for expired tags. They are usually looking for stolen tags/vehicles or wanted people. Though they will look for expired tags there are just too many people on the road to catch them all.

rode around on an expired tag one time.... not my fault though NCDMV said I had a lapse ii insurance and would not issue me a new sticker. Had to fill out a bunch of paperwork and have my ins company send them letters saying I never had a lapse. Took about 6 weeks but they finally sent me a sticker. I got pulled twice in that time, once by NCHP and once by CMPD.

What I dont get are the cars riding around with "Tag Applied For" on an old ragged POS..... I've never had to "Apply" for a tag. Just walk into the DMV and get one.....

This is true. The user can set up the system to alarm at whatever level of offense they want, but I've ridden with officers who have seen expired tags and just don't want to bother with it. Along the same lines, these cameras are posted on many of the main highways we use everyday. If they really wanted to enforce the expired tag issue, a couple of officers could just sit on the side of the highway and chase them all day.

I really can't believe what I'm reading here. This board has went down hill. Are people actually wanting cops to enforce laws? Most threads on here want police to catch real criminals and not bully them by enforcing tag or other revenue making laws like speeding or seatbelts. Lol. I actually was surprised when I read the thread after reading the title. I haven't met my quota yet this month, maybe you guys could help me by turning in your neighbors with expired tags. .

I asked an officer once why he pulled me over and yet there were a BUNCH of other cars on the same road going as fast or faster then me. He gave me the old bit about, "Well son, have you ever been fishing? Did you catch ALL the fish?"

I was kinda shocked too...don't think I've ever read a thread on any innernet forum looking to enhance police activity. Typically it's always the victim mentality and how cops are scum of the earth. I still stand by, I've never been hassled by a cop when I didn't have it coming.

troll on bishes.

My sister came over to my house a month or two ago and pointed out that my tag was like 8 months expired. Puzzled I looked in the glove box, there was a current registration with the sticker still on it... I keep my tags current. Why not? I just hate renewing my tags for the tow rig...

My Brother in Law was driving my old Jeep while I was driving a U haul behind him. A cop pulled him over so I stopped as well. Come to find out my tag was expired on my Jeep and that's why he pulled him. I asked the cop to issue me the ticket since it was my vehicle. Cop said he couldn't, it had to go to the operator of the vehicle. After doing his due diligence to figure out how, he just told me to get it fixed as soon as possible and sent me on my way.

moral, if you borrow someones vehicle, you're suppose to check the tags are up to date. o_O

I got pulled in a customers car we fixed the check engine light and were driving it to get the readiness codes to pass. Fayetteville PD officer gave me a written warning cause you're supposed to make sure the vehicle your driving is legal (lights and all) before you use it he told me.

Tom I understand, & have run into the same people, that were too absent minded to Apply the sticker. But I thought you could Still get ticketed for it! Like Not having your licences with you, if stopped, & the Officer tell you to show it to the DA,in court!

It seems there enough Offenders here, to meet your Quota! There are No Quotas, you know?

I have to buy 5 tags between vehicles & trailers, & let me be 1 day or item wrong, & i'd get a ticket! Guess that's why I feel all these others are getting a Free ride.
Every one have a great day, & btw, don't bother with lights or tags on your Trailer; No body else does!

My backup worktruck has had an expired tag since april. Its hard to pay for an extra over 20k tag when you dont use it often at all.

On a related note... I love how after you've had a vehicle a long time, the stack of stickers on the plate gets to be able an inch thick... you could probably break then whole bunch off in a chunk, lol.

That is unless you're one of those pretty boys that actually take the time to peel off the old one.

I had the sticker stolen once so I now apply the sticker then take a razor and cut it into pieces so u can't get it off in one piece.
