Expired Tags!!!!!!

You must not enjoy life if you ride around and are looking if other people's tags are out of date.

Y'all want officers at Uwharrie then cry when they hand out tickets for stupid shit left and right.

Breathe in and chill out. Worry about your own life and property.

To hope there is more traffic enforcement is the most laughable thing I've seen on this board.
Well, like most folks, I drive to work, & drive back home. But while at work, I drive a truck in my local area for another 6/8/10 hours a day. I See a Ton of tags! There right there in front of me, how can I Not see them? And speaking of Stupid Shit, I get to witness that All day long, as well. It's Really incredible what people Do, & escape with their lives! It only gets Worse every year, & I decided 15 years back, that Driver Education Training, is a JOKE!

I recently had a friend tell me....

"I never renew mine until I get a ticket. Once I get a ticket, I get them fixed, show that they are fixed, and the ticket gets thrown out. It's way cheaper than paying every year."

I don't necessarily agree with that, I'm just saying that little 1x1 sticker is way down on my list of stuff to lose sleep over. I keep mine up to date, but may or may not even have a current registration card anywhere. On top of that, I don't tear those little cards apart that nationwide sends me every 6 months either. While looking for something in my Tacoma the other day, I found 3 of the previous owners registration cards, zero for me....

Forgot about mine that expired on 1/31 while out on bidness, tried paying the taxes at least yesterday. Apparently I can't do that until the car has been inspected. So 1) I say fawk em until my earliest convenience (probably this weekend) and 2) If local taxes are tied to the registration now (has been for a couple years now, right), I don't see how folks are just blowing them off for multiple years anymore unless they don't mind wage garnishments and penalties/interest.

You don't have to pay property tax on an unregistered vehicle.

Maybe I'm getting shafted, but I've been paying on my 77 that's been in storage and unregistered since 2010. Also, those taxes have been assessed, you don't pay within their window, additional penalties, fees and interest start accruing...so the next time you do have to register it, you'll get hit with it. Happened on my Bronco last time I let it sit for 6 months, registration lapsed for 5 months...and on vehicle they valued at $700, it was an additional $25 in fees. Now had I sold that Bronco, does that assessment just disappear??? I dunno, or does your name just float out there with an uncollectable tax liability attached to it???

Seriously? Man, I am fawked, I have a couple of cars that have been sitting for 5-10 years that I hope to have on the road again sometime in the next couple of years. I haven't paid taxes on them since I parked them.

So the way I read that...you have a vehicle that you're not current on, and you want to re-register it...be prepared for fees and interest on AT LEAST the last time it was assessed. I'm not sure yet whether I'm getting shafted or not on my unregistered vehicles that I've been paying the taxes on.

Furthermore...

(b) Interest. - Interest accrues on unpaid taxes and unpaid registration fees for registered classified motor vehicles at the rate of five percent (5%) for the remainder of the month the taxes are due under subsection (a) of this section. Interest does not accrue for the first month following the due date. Interest accrues at the rate of three-fourths percent (3/4%) beginning the second month following the due date and for each following month until the taxes and fees are paid. Subject to the provisions of G.S. 105-395.1, interest accrues on delinquent taxes on unregistered classified motor vehicles as provided in G.S. 105-360(a) and the discounts allowed in G.S. 105-360(a) apply to the payment of the taxes.

Guilford county sends a yearly property declarations card every year, and requests it be returned. they want boats, trailers, property improvements, farm equipment, unregistered vehicles, and probably more. I was declaring my 77CJ-7 for years, never got taxed, so I stopped. I listed a 99 XJ 2 years ago, got taxed a few dollars last year.

Found some confirmation as to the Expired tags I see, which the # has dropped, even though I recently saw 2, that were over a Year, expired! Charlotte/Meck, just had a Click it or Ticket, campaign, > in 2 weeks, 475 seat belt violations, which also found 269 registration/inspection violations, & 34 = no operator license. Huh, That should make a difference!

The registration on my 01 Ram was 1.5 years out of date. Preparing for the upcoming open ride at the Flats, I figured I better get it legit. I went to the plate office last week, and told them the truck broke down and I had parked it a while back. They issued me a new plate and registration.
