Family tow vehicle?

@BigClay Another thought to consider is the tag. I’m thinking the big SUV’s (Excursion and Suburban) don’t require weighted tags to tow with. Depending on weight, could be up to $500 a year savings to not drive a truck. Just my $.02

Don’t think it’s been said yet and it isn’t one of the original ideas you threw out but we have a 08 sequoia 5.7 4wd 3rd row. Pulled my yj and trailer to ure from waxhaw no issue. Trailer doesn’t have brakes on both axles hooked up and I haven’t got the anti sway on the trailer yet. It’s been to obx (also on the beach), Wisconsin, and everywhere else. Great ride. Just a extra idea to throw out

Yeah, but those are Ford numbers ;)

I think technically that's only 2-3000lbs less than my F250 with 800ftlbs, 13" brakes, 10.5" ring gear full float rear axle. I don't know how Ford gets away with their half ton numbers sometimes.

FWIW my ‘15 expedition pulls better than my ‘99 F-350 triton V8. Has more power, more torque. Feels smoother. Stopping doesn’t feel much different with my 4K?# boat

Since we are in a turning radius pissing match (I may be too late), a Hemtt is about 96' while a MK-48 is about 38 feet IIRC. So if you decide to consider getting an 8x8 please keep that in mind. Plus the MK rides better, but it's slower...

As for Ford's turning radius, my 03' excursion with 05+ front axle turns GREAT. Maybe it just turned so horrible before?? Haha

 none of your trucks MAKE fuel. You're argument is invalid

BTW...saw you refuelling that new 72 ton at the Iraqi Shackie a few days ago. Wanted to stop, but it was 957 degrees and I was in nice clothes

I don't know about that. I have a 2015 GMC, and my biggest customer is a Ford dealer. I have gotten out of my truck and gotten into many, many F-150s the last few years, and they definitely do not turn as tight as my truck. Maybe something changed in 2019 or 2020, but I find conflicting info on that.
My son has a 14 Chevy high country and wife has a 15 suburban.
My tundra turns tighter than either one. Lanes truck cant uturn into a 2 lane without running off road.

And I think the tundra is a plow turning.
In fact my biggest complaint with his truck [and why it's his and not mine ;)] is the turning radius. It's a bitch to park.

The wifes burban (2wd) turns much tighter fwiw

My wife's 04 Burb 4x4 turns much tighter than my 15 GMC truck. I can be in the turn lane on a 4 lane highway, and U-turn into the closest lane with loads of space to spare. My truck will do it, but not as much space.

It was horrible before! 99-04 trucks have the turning radius of a freight train. 05+ is sooo much better and I think it's 10+ can turn even sharper. I know with an 06 axle, my CCSB Duramax can pull a u turn well inside the outer lane of a 4 lane highway.

So I am going to give my input that aligns with some here. I sold my dodge cummins and bought a f150 5.0. At first I was nervous because I always had a diesel but after owning it a few years I should have done it awhile back. Tows great for what it is. I think the tow rating is 9-10k. I have pulled 7k and pulls like a dream. If I was pulling that more than a few times a year then I would think another truck would be better suited but for the little I tow heavy it works great. Just about every weekend I have a zero turn or a boat hooked up to it.

I think after all this discussion I should go ahead and buy a brand new F450 have it converted from a 4 door to a 6 door and I might be ok hauling my lawn tractor on my 3x5 trailer up the street to my neighbors house :D:D

On a serious note, thanks for all the input guys.

You will really need the payload capacity of the F550 to cover the weight of the 6 door cab ;)

Have to be careful doing the 6door conversion on the fords. The added length makes it harder to fit on a rollback. :flipoff2:

Need more details, what motor did you get?

2013, so only option was the 6.0. LT with lots of bells and whistles. It will be my DD, so i wanted some creature comforts.

Drove it back from Alabama and got 17.5mpgs while running 75mph most of the time, so I was pleased.

But did it make fuel going downhill:flipoff2:

I gotcha, I'm in the same boat so just looking into my options.

I did a lot of research on 2500 Suburbans, feel free to shoot me any questions. Short and sweet is the last year of the 8.1 was 2005. The 6 speed tranny came in 2007. 2013 was the last year they were made and available directly to civilians.
