Firetruck woops

the actual incident was Back in May or June I beleive. That was a tiller steer ladder truck and they had some sort of mis-communication between the front and rear drivers. Like, oh ya, I wanna turn here....Oooops !!

Thats the second truck they have rolled in the last year that I know of, they rolled a pumper on St Albin's Dr. back Nov-Dec. ish

it happens, a lot of weight to be tossing around like a race car.

I guess the car didn't know who else to call, the fire department was already there.

The story I heard was that they were lucky the drivers weren't switched. They're a team, and the guy that was driving the back that day is a bunch shorter than the guy that was up front.

Since when do they run red lights without even really slowing down to look to see if anyone was coming from the other direction. A ambulance ran a red light on the way to a call in ayden and killed a woman probably a year ago.

This one was a case of bad communication.... driver didn't let the guy in the rear know they were turning. You can see in one of the videos out that the guy in the rear tried to make it but it was just too fast.

They need to slow the heck down. There is no reason to be driving a fire truck that fast and not slowing down for the intersection.

I watched it on the news last night and the fire chief stated it was a last minute decision to turn and going to fast into that turn is what caused it.. he mentioned that sometimes they need to slow down to 5mph to make the turns.. so it was totally drivers fault.

and they are hoping ins will cover it or else they are gonna need to make cuts in fire department to pay for it.. yet I just saw yesterday that Raleigh is hiring 14 new fire fighters..

I'm not totally buying the last minute decision deal. The tiller and the cab share an open mic system so anything said between the two is heard without having to push a button to talk. Theres also device that sticks up off the top of the cab the tiller driver uses for a reference point on where to steer. I think it was just basically someone got tunnel vision and carelessness took over. Sux espeically being tower 4 was a fairly new truck

DAMMMMMMN! I've seen all the pics of the crash but that is the first I've seen of a video. I drive High Points Tiller truck and what they did could easily happen. Speed while cornering and the ladder itself weighs 20,000 #s. If the tillerman is not setting up for the "correct" turn and the front turns the other way, it will have a "whipping" effect like a water skier outside the wake in a turn. That's a case where momentum is not your friend. I wont blow a red light no matter what but you have to take control of the roadway or people will not yield. My crew had a "discussion" about speed and our driving habits after their misfortune in Raleigh. Not many people get to drive a million dollar vehicle much less offensively thru city streets. I have a huge respect for how I drive it.
And DRKelly to defend the emergency services the next time you dial 911 do you want them taking their time riding behind traffic or busting their ass to help yours? For a public service announcement when you hear a siren you need to pull to the right and STOP.

I don't want them taking turns like that. That's a public sidewalk they flipped through. Could have been a group of 10 kids walking right there.

Could have been a pack of drug dealers standing there too...

drug dealers put food on my table

But there is def a fine line between saving lives/endangering lives. I have nothing but respect for firefighters don't get me wrong but that could have been way way worse.

You're right it could have been way worse. I was explaining why we drive fast, aggressive and what the unknowing civilian might think to be "dangerous". We have to go through countless hours of training and qualifying just to drive a squad much less a 65' tractortrailer.Iget picked at because some guys think I drive too slow when I think I'm pretty damn fast. I just don't want to take a family minivan for the 50th false alarm at the same building. And while I'm on the soap box they had the green light that's why the bus and car were stopped but they I agree with you guys they did take the corner too fast. Be thankful that when you call, somebody on the other end is busting their ass to get to you for help. It's what the taxpayer demands.
