My pops is still out of his house, a small 8' wide normally dry creek has been running for almost 3 days now and has rerouted across his yard and wiped out every bit of grass. House is up in the air so its fine. He just had to cut power and get out.. He's across the street at the neighbors until water level goes down.

Few miles south/east of him a small state road bridge washed out and west into town had 6" of water running down main street... Into the very over flooded Schoharie Creek..

The aerial is showing that same creek where it dumps into the Mohawk river ~30miles down stream..

The one locks(dam)/bridge blew out 2 sections yesterday. I've never seen it flood like that, even in the spring with the snow melt..

Prolly be going up to visit soon....

Mike, glad to hear they're OK...hoping the waters recede quickly, so they can get things back to somewhat normal.

just got off the phone with pops. Phone came back on today, power maybe by Friday. The run-off off the mountain left 2-6' of gravel debris in the yard, 3' water in the garage but the door held the debris out, luckily he had put most stuff on the benches. The water has pulled back and left 6" of mud all over the garage (30x50ish out building). Their house was just high enough to not get any damage other than the mud underneath.

Neighbor came up with a dozer and push out the driveway so they can get off the road. More equipment coming later this week...

Many many people lost their homes all around him. Just saw the area on several of the national news shows. They have tons of pics I'll get em up when they are able to send em out... In Schoharie and Middleburg every single store in town had 4-6' of water and lost most everything. They faired better than most out that way.

Dang! Close call. Sounds like he was just high enough to avoid the worst of it.

Hell most people pay good money to gravel the drive, he got the yard as a bonus!! Glad everyone is ok. Could have been ALOT worse....

Yes very lucky. House site in on an 8" reinforced Alaskan slab with block piers and cabled down heavily and 3"thick insulation skirts.

I told pops at least he wont have to mow much grass now.. :)

now that's a rock garden!! Glad your pops is OK Mike!! all the other stuff can be fixed.

Buy a R/C crawler and you would be set

Damn, thats crazy ...it's like the whole riverbed is in his yard ....glad to hear they're OK
