Flooding?

Yeah granted it's not the nicest city in the state but I do have to live here for now and a lot of people call it home. I can't bring myself to joke about anyone dealing with this chaos no matter who they are or where it is.

Has the water dropped at your house? Looks like the flooding is mostly along the rivers now. My office is closed today and there's so many road closures around us I don't think I could get downtown if I wanted to...

Ehh... Sort of. Plenty of roads are washed out from Garners ferry thru Hopkins, Elgin, Eastover and so on. Anywhere near a river is in terrible shape. Downtown especially near lower USC campus and olympia, bluff road is still submerged last i heard. As a neighborhood effort we were able to get the deeper water out of the backyards around where I live. It was close to 3' in some places. I'm at work in west Columbia now responding to flood clean up and will be for several days/weeks.

Just trying to lighten the mood, man.

Please dont take offense.
If I can help in anyway holla

Now they're talking about the Sesqui dam is breaking and they are evacuating everyone below it... Forest Acres down.....

Ive done/do sub-contracting work for Columbia Metro Waste Water , Those fields are not full of sewage water , at least not intentionally . I am sure the WWTP it beyond capacity and strom drain water is being discharged into the river . I drove to Shop and South Beltline this morning to pull a friend out . As you can see in the pictures , the road going to the WWTP is completely under water .Also I must have seen 30-40 dump trucks of gravel and rip-raff going to the Northfolt-Southern yard

That silo/tank in the second picture was upright last week , Ive done work at this facility too , they told me because is was partially filled with oil it floated free of it's base and fell over. You can see the debris in the fence , to get an idea of how high the water got.

I did some water extraction today around two-notch/trenholm road area of Arcadia lakes and Forest acres. Basically theres a series of 5 or more lakes built on one particular creek watershed that overflowed and bust in sequence, not without rising 6-8 ft before giving out. Seems to be the story in a lot of areas. While there's still much flowing water in these what used to be lakes, you can see everything from flipped boats to living room furniture laying in the mud. Wild.

It is going to get worse before it gets better. Here is a picture of the canal that feeds water to the water plant in columbia. It's not supposed to have that massive gash in it.

My company is working a flood cleanup on another lake this time in the north west. Helicopters flying overhead and alerts going off on my phone alerting people of yet another dam break. We've got several jobs going now (as many as our workforce can handle), and currently waiting for temp labor to show up and lend a hand. Since the lake is under flood warning, there'll be 5 guys working and one watching the lake level. Hopefully things go well. Servpro is maxed out like all other flood responders and I'm seeing cleanup crews from as far away as Oklahoma.

Yesterday I saw coast guard helicopter flying , I'l be interested to see some areal photos now that the sun is out , I had to put sunglasses on for the first time in almost 3 weeks .

It got deep in our neighborhood but thankfully didn't get in the house. Another 6 inches and it wouldn't have been good. One neighbor did end up with about 1 foot of water in her house. Deepest spot when I walked out was probably a foot higher than in this pic, and it probably went up another 6 inches overnight while we were out. Had about 6" in my garage which managed to knock over a bucket of transmission fluid that made a nice greasy mess on the floor when it drained off. Yesterday I pulled off some tin I had around the bottom of the walls and am drying them out with fans. Anything else I should do to help mitigate any possible damage?

Looks like some crazy stuff up in the middle part of the state.

If any of my fellow South Carolinian's need help or supplies let me know. Darlington got lucky and didn't get hit too hard at all.

As stated by others, I hope all involved are safe. I remember going thru a 100 year floor back in 85. That being said, any member of the l this board is welcome to PM me if they need any help with getting back in their routine.

Thanks but I'm cozily bunkered up in Lenny's basement.
