Gear installs

I have the feeling that this has already been covered, but i cant seem to find it. Where is the best place around the triangle to get gears installed or are there any members here that can do it? I can pull the thirds, what would be a decent price on a gear install? I will have the gears and the install kits. Thanks for the help.

yeah, kevin watts. len at 4 wheeling of raleigh does a good job also, but kevin is going to be (alot) cheaper.
 
Whenever I find a house after I move up there from Houston this week I am going to get setup to do them again. I have done a handful with good results. I'm assuming you're talking about your Toy 3rds, those are pretty easy. I have set up both Nissan 3rds and Ford 9" thirds before.

Sorry I can't help you sooner.

As for a shop, I consider anything around $250 or less to be a decent price for the work (as long as it is done right of course). Most shops I have priced are charging $300 or so.
 
you can still get lynn (not len) or edward to do gears, they just dont do it for a good price
 
If you got any kind of mechanical skills, give it a shot yourself? After you do it once, it all makes sence. Just need a BF breaker bar if a crush sleeve is involved. I did a 14 bolt and will do all my own from now on. Of course it took me 2 days to do the 14. Bet I could cut it down to 1 or 1/2 now that I know the drill.

Lynn does not work and is not part of 4 Wheeling of Raleigh anymore.
He left it and his dad(and the owner form the beginning) is trying to keep it running...
 
Thanks for the help guys, Ratman has told me he will do it with my help. So, im going to see where that goes, and if it doesnt work out i will be giving you a call Kevin.

The 14-bolt is one of the easiest to set up; any axle with side-adjustors is a better one to learn the techniques with. The 14-bolt and 9" both have separate pinion supports which make them the easiest of all IMO. Doing to a shimmed carrier sucks bigtime, but those are more common unfortunately.

Its not a problem at all. No crush sleeves damnit! :lol: You8r welded 3rd is a non issue. Change the gear oil in the rear after 500 miles and recheck the pinion nut torque at the same time. Gears are easy as long as you dont drop a chunk on your toe.
