As I sit here in the dark going on the fifth hour, I am becoming more and more interested in a home generator.

Who has one? Any reputable companies in the Winston Salem or Greensboro area? What should I look for? How many items do the different sizes power?

I have 2. A 2k Yamaha and a 6k off brand. Both are gas. If the power goes off for a short time I just us the Yamaha to power some lights and the fridge. If the power is off for days then I fire up the big one and plug it into my service box.

Been drinking beer since 10a and about to shoot off fire works...today isn't a great day to chime in. Lol .

Call me this week and I'll help 803.627.9ZERO29

Ron, thanks, I will be in touch.

I have a 6500k for my house.. when we loose power I only run the essential items..I dont run AC or Heat.. but it is nice to have lights, fridge etc working when all the neighbors are in the dark

mine is also wired in threw a transfer switch so i dont back feed the power lines..

I say get as big as you can afford.. I plan to go much bigger later on.. but this works for now

I've also considered a large generator for the house. I'll keep an eye on this thread for more info
